I think when people say some of the storylines were dead ends they mean that the show creator never tied it all together.
You have the different cult members doing similar yet different things. Ledoux-meth, Tuttle-religion,schools. Lawn mower man-kids etc etc. But it was never tied all together and explained why they started doing this and what was their purpose behind it all. It left too many unanswered questions for me. Maybe somebody can answer them for me.
What was the black stars about?
What was the antler crown on Dora Lange about?
What was the point with the former lsu baseball player?
What was the meaning behind the spiral?
Marty daughter?
What role did the prostitutes play in the story?

just symbolism, no real meaning

Marty daughter?
I think it was pretty obvious that she was exposed to the cult at some point, even though the show never flat out told you

the one's in the woods? just that is where Dora worked

well the thing is, with this assumption, when she was grown and marty was in the hospital (and it was clearly more than ledoux), i'd presume she would admit as much? either way you look at it, there are issues (gaping holes)

was the sheriff a childress? i foget

Those last five minutes were the PERFECT way to end the show.

oh, for the love of...
I really wonder how the board would have received the show if it had been filmed in W. Virginia with Hillbillys instead of Louisiana with Swamp people.
It was good, but acting like it is flawless is just silly.

and with a family of incestuous pedos and no cult mystery

sorry, forgot that part

Did they really need to go in explicit detail about the symbols?

ok then, say she wasn't and the director was just fricking with everyone

I guess we will find out next season

Here's my issue. The show is about two detectives investigating a serial murder that becomes soo much more once they begin removing layers surrounding the case.
And then they never resolve what the hell the point was of it all. Why start revealing clues and show them working towards solving the case just to not tie it all up for the viewer?
Seems to me the guy had a great idea for a show and either didn't know how to wrap it all up or outsmarted himself

who shot the fricking dog at the end and why
Errol

Wasn't Errol too far into the woods by then?
No, he had just went around the house.

And why would he do that anyway?
Dog could have given away his position.

Yes, your inability to accept the conclusion is due to the writer's deficiency.

I enjoyed the show a lot. The ending was a little anticlimactic in that the resolution wasn't that complicated, BUT the episode was very tense and kept a viewer on the edge of their seat.
No ending would have satisfied everyone. There were a lot of "clues" or references along the way that couldn't, and didn't need to be, resolved.
Of course, I honestly think the ending to The Sopranos was almost perfect, and lot of people didn't like it. So there you go.

No, because he was standing in the open anyway. He clearly unleashed anger on the dog, just look at the scene in the house when he threw a skillet at the same dog.

I think the Sopranos ending was a masterpiece. It had finality

I accept the conclusion to the show. I just think he didn't do a great job of explaining all these things he set up and now we have no resolution to the story

HAHA. I called this shite from Episode 1.
The killer doesn't matter, the symbols don't matter, the daughter doesn't matter. They are all just driving details in a CHARACTER STUDY.
The show is about Marty and Rust, not a serial killer. Its in the god danged title, True Detectives.
Oh, and I'm glad they left it open for them two to possibly return.

I think that was the point, Rust and Marty even discussed it in the hospital. Rust recognized that they didn't get them all, but Marty tried to convince him that they did enough because at least they got their guy. That's why nothing else about the cult or anything was explained further, because they didn't learn any more information about it.

Sure we do. Rust and Marty got their guy.
