Did not read this thread, but I feel like there was A LOT of wasted time in this show. They know going in it's only going to be 8 episodes, why not take advantage of it?
The show drew a lot of people in with the idea that there was going to be depth, but in the end everything was pretty predictable.
I don't think Marty or Rust were dynamic enough characters on their own to merit wasting so much time on their "development."
Jmo of course.

A plot is not swiss cheese just because it leaves things unexplained. And this show didn't even leave anything unexplained.

more like i'm enjoying watching people completely change their views without any real basis in justifying the change
i'm also highly enjoying people who admit i was right and they were wrong weeks ago. my flock grows. don't doubt the yellow king

The show in the beginning had me hooked as I thought the premise was two modern detectives investigating the weird biblical shite that went on in a series like Carnivale in the 30's but still in the 90's or even the inter workings of a redneck Eyes Wide Shut cult...
I liked the dialogue, cast, and setting. I liked Russ' character a lot. They could have done a lot with the story.
I feel the same way about the movie Eyes Wide Shut. At the end I didn't care about Tom and Nicole being together... I was like what the frick was going on with that party and the people involved... How did we not dive into that more?

if the "character" angle is supposed to be the only thing we care about, this is 100% true

we don't know who was in the cult, why they did what they did, why they killed people publicly, etc
we know nothing about the cult other than a couple of victims and 3-4 members
the cult and its mystery was THE draw of the show

I thought it was just a well done typical crime/detective show. The two leads being very good actors raised it above the majority of the genre.

well to be fair, a major theme of EWS was that it was a black comedy about tom cruise being basically a failure are being an elitist rich guy. the actual elite/rich were just a foil for his failures
i haven't seen the movie in a bit, but the orgy also played a symbolic role in his sexual issues

Why is that enjoyable exactly?
I'm still waiting for you to find my posts where I changed my reasons for following/being interested in the show.

What is your standard of "depth"?

So you never leave a movie theater with a different appreciation in the end? Or do you decide what a movie is about in 15 minutes, and stick with it until the end?
You are really making an arse of yourself in this thread. The last two hours have been nothing but you arguing with anyone who liked the show. You've made your point many times over. Would you mind any other discussion?

i closed down the prior episode threads. i'm going to look tomorrow if i'm not too busy with work
going to screen shot alot of posts from people to have ready to post at some point, depending on what they say about the season

Um what? The identity of the cult members was the draw of the show? What sort of simpletons do you hang out with?
The cult was the Tuttle family, and then later Childress took it to another level. This is particularly hard; Childress says it himself in the last episode.

I can agree with this. I wish there had been more focus on the cult angle which is what I thought we were going to get early on, but I still enjoyed watching it.
It was better than most buddy cop shows, but I don't think there's any doubt that that's all it was, which is what left me a little disappointed.

You've never struck me as the type that wanted something spoon fed to you.

I like how in your theory that's a fact. That's only a draw if you got all riled up by the endless Internet myths. I never believed it was going to be anything like that, so I guess I enjoyed the show all the way thru unburdened.

how many posts of these threads have been about reasoning/guessing who is in the cult? at least 30%...possibly 40%?
it's been, by far, the most popular discussion topic on this show (both on here and reddit)

and at least 1 meth cook and his sidekick
and employees of the churches/schools who aren't related to the tuttles
and god knows who else

I hope you take the time to post all of mine. There is nothing hypocritical about starting out liking a show for one reason, and appreciating it as something else in the end.

there is a large gap between "no information" and "being spoon fed"
