I just dont understand why they wasted so much time on the first 4.
I know. They were all over the place and had too much useless setup (except maybe CF's character). When the show focuses on the case, it's pretty damn good.

because true detective is a character study. It's the same reason they spend so much time on VV and his wife's inability to get pregnant and Colin Farrel's fat kid.

I agree they should cut all that crap out and focus on the murder mystery, but they did the same thing in season 1.

This goes to the editor and the fact the director(s) isnt the same guy.

They actually had a good idea and just didn't know how to execute it from jump.

I'm excited for the final 2 episodes though.

except that was only 2 characters.

The backstory should have been CF, VV, and RM only. Have TK as one of the supporting actors.

It's a shame because I think it's a good crime story as is.

I have a feeling this will end epically, and then I will have to go back to re watch the season to really appreciate it. So far it's been meh

Exactly. True Detective is more about the characters involved than the storyline. It worked in the first season because there were only 2 characters being developed.

Here, they're trying to develop 4, in the same amount of time. The result being, that the writers cheat themselves out of valuable screen time.

If you want to increase the cast, do so, but do it with a new method. We're getting half-assed story lines and a weak investigation, as is.

The first four episodes had me meh.

The time jump and the reset brought me back in last week.

This episode was fantastic. VV tore it up. He dismantled every scene he was in.

Honestly I was shocked to see that some people did not like this episode. Maybe some people are just too far gone already to give it a shot, but the flat out truth is that this episode was extremely well done. I don't understand how people can deny it.

Episodes 5 and 6 are where this series should have begun. Easily better than the first 4 of the season (which were comically bad)

Still have no idea where this narrative is coming from

You do realize there is no such thing as an entire season, in this case 8 episodes, of just 100 percent full throttle, nail-biting action/drama?

They might not have needed 4 episodes to set the tone, but everyone who is saying this acts like they've never watched a TV show or a movie before

Much more entertaining episode but the girl cop going to the party mansion didnt seem to have any real purpose considering the other agents are the one who broke in and stole the documents. What does he say at the very end... something about a deal going down with the land....... "These contracts__________." then he swerves the car around. I heard signatures all over them but he must have something more meaninful than that. What was it?

The whole purpose was for her to get in and see what goes on. Plus they had to follow her to even know where the mansion was.

Was that so hard?

I was certainly wondering what went on at discrete parties full of high priced women-for-hire and rich men.

I know, I'm talking about this guy:

I was thinking this was the guy that shot CF back in episode two with the shotgun. When you hear the line in episode 3 "They used riot shells like cops use"
always thought he was the guy in the crow mask. The whole Vinci PD corruption things is really interesting to watch unfold these past two episodes.

Also, thought I saw the state investigation guy who announced his run for governor in that house too, they showed his face right at the beginning of RM's trippy walk through the house, before she saw the black guy that heads up Vinci PD.

The difference is in Season 1 they only really focused on two guys, here its 4 different back stories. Its too much.

It was a good scene...great tension and pulled the veil back on what has been going on. It's TV not everything is going to be 100 percent realistic. Sure it seemed like their would be more than a couple of security guards at a place with this many big wigs but IDFGAF. It was a good episode. Vaughn is getting better everyweek.

If some of you dumbasses would actually watch the show instead of posting on here every 10 seconds while it's on, you wouldn't be asking such simple questions.

"Who is Stan?"
"What was the spray?"
"Who was at the party?"
"Who was the Mexican girl at the party?"

Jesus Christ, it really seems like most of you watch just enough to bash the show but not care enough to pay attention to what's going on.

Anyway, First 4 Eps were a shitshow, but the last 2 have been solid..writing is still over the top at times, and the storyline isn't near as captivating as season 1, but still solid entertainment....Hopefully it continues and finishes with bang that surprises us all.
