How in the world did he make $17 million a year off a show that nobody watched?
17 million? Jesus
This is a Lazenby level mistake he's making

Kilborn was the best host. Urban and internet pseudo-intellectuals who thought Stewart was the height of profundity will never admit it, but it's true.

Honestly has there been a man in American history that has psychologically traumatized more people than Anthony Fauci? He’s gone to near Stalin or Mao levels on how much he has ruined generations of people’s minds.

When was his first?

CDAN says his unfunny arse was fired.

Can you imagine the guy whose job it was to cut and edit those ads. He either hated his job or the most oblivious person on Earth. Everytime I saw an ad for the Daily Show, it was painfully unfunny. Noah was just so bad.

Trevor Noah making it 7 years on that unwatchable show is the most shocking thing about this story

Ahh, a conservative circle jerk thread. I did not see this coming.

There's no way in hell he's walking away from the show of his own volition. He'll never get any job that comes close to the Daily Show.
I strongly think Comedy Central is just ending the show and is allowing him to make it look like he's leaving and that's why they decided to end it, rather than the other way around.

You pay somebody that much because there's "plenty of room in budget?"

Honestly Comedy Central is just worthless these days like MTV is. It’s just reruns and the Daily Show, especially with all of South Park moving to Paramount+. These channels will not be around in 10 years.

I don't know a single person (including the more left leaning of the peopel I know) that think he's slightly funny or have even watched more than 5 minutes of his show.

Shows like the Daily Show and the late night talk shows increasingly depend on viral clips for survival.
I don’t even remember seeing a single clip of the Daily Show in the last 5 years. No one watched the show, it wasn’t culturally relevant, and it didn’t get any traction on social media. I don’t know how or why he survived for 7 years.
Most people trashed him and his show for the first year or two, then everyone completely forgot it existed.

I tried with him originally but just gave up. He was just never either especially funny or especially smart.
I lay some of the blame on the current zeitgeist. There's been a real shift on the world outlook for the left leaning audience.
It used to be the majority of American cultural institution power (from the 80s through early 00s) was really conservative leaning. And the critique of power (by liberals) is what made the comedians making fun of people class clowns rebelling against unjust authority - instead of humorless authoritarians using the power of coordinated state and media to crush incorrect thought.
Calling someone racist, sexist, phobic, etc is just incredibly hard to do lightly. And the key to most comedy is making even difficult and uncomfortable topics funny.

Correct. Leftism in this country was traditionally counter-culutre. It was about fighting "the man". It was Raging Against the Machine. etc.
Hard to rage against the machine when you are the machine.
The far left controls every single major cultural institution as well as the whole of education system.
Hilarious how they think coming out and saying the corporate approved talking points everyone else is saying is brave or rebellious. The NPC meme took off because it's so real.
They think they're the rebels but they're actually the Empire.

I used to watch the "Daily Show" all the time. I've never watched an episode of his run. I saw a handful of clips, decided it wasn't for me, and I've cheerfully ignored it for... well 7 years now.

A reminder many on this board doesn’t actually understand the words they use and the groups they label
Tell me how many times anyone from Chapo Trap House, Cum Town, Current Affairs, or Jacobin has been featured on The Daily Show or Cobert lol???
You know, actual far leftists?

I am sure my opinion will be ignored by anyone who doesn't already agree but... the problem with modern politics is major parts of the political language of both parties have been radicalized.
People in the center or the right are correct when they critique Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, PBS, and the traditional networks as radicalized when they (for
example) can no longer define what a man or a woman are.
Is that significant? A tolerant person with liberal sympathies will evade that answer. Because of course it is. This is not a marginal issue or a white lie we pretend to believe out of civic decency. Not when media and government are so actively interested in regulating behaviors, benefits, and outcomes on the basis of sex and other identity characteristics.
