that is the dumbest criticism ever. they hate this movie because it's not another one?

I don't think critics expect sequels or prequels to be more lighthearted, which made it jarring to many of them. They expect entries to be darker, which is why I'm sure the next two will get better reviews.

that's going to be the 2nd one right? this is spoilers kind of but obvious from the title so i'll give a warning

***book spoilers****

if smaug is killed in the 2nd one what is the 3rd one going to be about? i think after smaug died the book was just about over. is the 3rd one going to be strictly appendices?

Nope, the Battle of Five Armies. There are an additional 5 chapters after Smaug is killed, plus there will be some more stuff in the appendices. Only 6 chapters were used in this film, so its doable. Most of the stuff from the appendices happen after they cross the Misty Mountains.

this.

Why did the critics hate the Hobbit? because it wasn't LOTR they all stated and the 48FPS and unusual shite you never heard before.

The 3rd one will be awesome. After watching the first one I have no doubt that they have enough material now. I can't wait to see how Peter ends the 2nd one.
The battle of the five armies will be fricking awesome

My opinion is that critics and people hate something that isn't exactly the same as the old thing

Take Prometheus, awesome sci fi thriller, but people wanted and expected an action movie.

So nm the awesome sets, costumes, fx...Prometheus sucks because they wanted a different movie

Thats why critics are so out of touch with your normal moviegoer for things like this.

What has the potential to be a better movie. The 2nd or 3rd in y'all opinions?

critics are always looking for that hidden gem. they don't want to like movies with widespread appeal for the most part. they suck at life, they remind me of the OT rating women

I still think Two Towers was my favorite out of the LOTR movies by a little.

On the fence. It depends on how well they do Smaug's death, since his death in the novel clearly won't work for the film.

this times a million. i will be disappointed if he gets taken down like he did in the book. it is not fitting for something as indestructible and powerful as smaug

Yeah, Smaug going down to an arrow is like me being killed with a toothpick. Think I've thought of a way, that can be somewhat faithful to the book. Smaug still has that one scale weakness, but instead Bard kills him with a scorpion, that gets precisely where the scale is Legolas style and kills it. How Bard is going to find out about this weakness from Bilbo, I don't have a fricking clue. I bet they spent months trying to figure out to kill Smaug.

This. I'm sure it was many sleepless nights. I won't be angry if they don't go exactly in the book. I'm sure they consulted many people and hopefully come up with something we will all be excited about. This will be as big as the riddles in my opinion. Better not mess it up

I read somewhere where someone said that Smaug will blow you away. The detail and creativeness they came up with to make not only a dragon but to destroy every other dragon in the history of cinema.

Remember you were asking why Gandalf wants so badly to join the trip with the dwarves. I came across this that made me forget.

quote:

Meanwhile, the Gandalf of The Hobbit wants Smaug dead because he believes Sauron may be trying to recruit him to his cause--and fears that if he does so, Mordor will become unstoppable.
