well I saw it last night on a screener a friend had downloaded. I cant judge the 48FPS or anything like that b/c the quality was so so but I did think a lot of the lighting seemed strange. I read The Hobbit when I was in grade school so my memory is a bit fuzzy on what all happened. I'm gue...

So you watched a downloaded copy?

my first viewing yes but my second was in theaters over the weekend.

the second viewing did not change my opinion.

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the film overall either.

But it simply is not as well done as the LOTRs flicks

it's really odd how some of the hobbit fanboys feel the need to attack any criticism of the movie. i took my fair share of lashings by a certain poster in the iwylsuiwy's thread. i didn't even say it was bad i had numerous good things to say about it. all that was focused on was the criticisms i had. they really have a problem

Duh. It's a completely different style. An intentional move. There isn't as much at stake in the hobbit as LOTR

Oh, I completely agree about the pacing and it has other flaws, but I disagree about the lighting.

that has nothing to do with my critiques of the film.

it is what it is I guess.

I even went into it hoping it would be the best movie I saw this year.

sadly it wasn't.

and that it was mostly technical issues that knocked it down for me was even more disappointing.

Personally, I think the pacing is off. It drags for 40 minutes and then becomes relentless. I don't like the new style as much. Too much cgi. But the critics ripped this one apart and not one complaint was about what is actually in the film. I liked the lighting. You want bad lighting, watch j. Edgar.

i liked it, had major problems with the first half but thought the latter half was pretty great. i have a problem with those that attack someone's opinion of a movie like they are incorrect though. it makes no sense it is an opinion

When critics forget that it's a trilogy, a prequel, 48 fps...all that bullshite I happen to think this movie, while slightly flawed, is incredible.

This. The movie had a few hiccups but was incredible.

Lol the lighting guy must have slept with that aggies girlfriend or something. What average movie watcher notices that. If anything what I remember with the lighting and picture quality was amazing. How many threads we're already started about the critics being so off base. That's say everything about how good the movie was. The pacing was great and the first 40 movie that people bitch about aren't fans and should really not watch the movie If they want to complain about the character development and introduction.

The 2nd should be even better like two towers advanced from the fellowship. We are in for a treat

oh no I agree taht it really picks up after the first hour but by then its too late to ignore all the issues.

I also agree that the over reliance on CG was a huge mistake.

going CG with the Orcs was lame, lame, lame.

but thats an issue I have with most movies these days.

So I am not a fan even if I have read all the books, own the cartoon versions, own the extended LOTR sets on DVD and BR, and still saw the movie in theaters AFTER I had seen it through a downloaded copy, and even own the shitty video game versions of LOTR on SNES and The Hobbit on Gamecube just b/c I think the pacing was poor?

and again, I do this for a living and I thought the lighting was poorly done for many portions. My coworkers thought the same. I guess we should apologize for not being average movie goers that don't know anything about the medium?
