Paramount announced on Thursday that it is once again pushing the release date of both “Top Gun: Maverick” and “A Quiet Place Part 2” in an effort to ensure audiences are able to remain safe while still experiencing the films in theaters rather than at home on Video On Demand (VOD).
According to Variety, “Top Gun: Maverick” was rescheduled from a Dec. 23, 2020, release to July 2, 2021. In April, the studio announced that the movie would be pushed from a June 24 release date to late December. However, as COVID-19 cases continue to spike throughout the U.S., the studio was concerned about the release getting lost.

The news comes along with a slew of other announcements from Paramount about its slate of movies in the coming years. In addition to “Top Gun: Maverick” being pushed, “A Quiet Place” was moved from Sept. 6, 2020, to April 23, 2021. Meanwhile, “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is scheduled to open April 8, 2022, a new “Jacka--” film was pushed from July 2021 to September 2021, “Under the Boardwalk” was announced for July 2022 and “The Tiger’s Apprentice" was moved from Feb. 11, 2022, to Feb 10, 2023.

We might as well get used to the fact that there will be no new major movies out the rest of the year.

Who thinks that 2021 movie releases may not even happen?

if it releases on schedule now - what better way to celebrate the independence day weekend with a by god fricking american fighter jet film.

So true
However looks like 2021 will see me hitting the theaters every dang week for new movies that were postponed... just gotta find a theater that won’t go under

But once the current "in the can" movies are released, will we get another dead period? Are movies filming right now (and will tv shows start filming for the fall)?
If not, do we see studios hold releases until their supply pipelines are moving again, so we don't have two periods where nothing new is being released?

I walked by an empty movie theater today. In normal times, the first shows of the day would have been happening.
Instead, it was just eerily quiet, and they had the Tenet movie poster up outside for the upcoming releases. Talk about a sad sight.
