I'm more surprised there are two westerns in the Top 15. I mean, I love Westerns, and a few around here do, but westerns just aren't popular.
Both Leone movies too. What director had the most movies on the list, Freaux?

Die Hard is probably a little low imo. Braveheart is way too high.
In my opinion Die Hard is top 50. It's more about what it finished above that I think is odd. Upon some self relfection I probably undervalue action movies in general compared to most people.
Braveheart was epic when I was 12. Nowadays it seems kind of cheesy. Maybe I'm just a cynic.

Wow! Thanks for putting this together. My #2 and #3 didn't make it, among others.
.
But again, thanks - I'm sure it was a lot of work.

I could get the data, but it could take awhile (since I don't have directors as a data column).
At first glance:
Kurosawa - SS, HF, Throne of Blood, Ran and Rashomon
Kubrick - Strangelove, Orange, 2001, Barry Lyndon, FMJ
Spielberg - JPark, Raiders, Jaws, List, Encounters, ET, SPR
Coens - Fink, Crossing, Fargo, O Brother, No Country, Arizona
Probably Spielberg, creator of our childhood

ETA: Also surprised to see that Crime Dramas have better representation than westerns. Doubt that would have been the case twenty years ago.
Ehh, I really don't find it surprising at all. Scorsese has polished our generation much more than the Westerns have, so our generation really likes crime dramas.

Heat what?
Like the list is missing Heat? Don't blame me. Although I wouldn't put that film in a personal 200 list.
No one voted for it.

Rear Window #92? No damn way! It is top 10.. that movie was a thriller if there ever was one..not to mention the cinematography was LIGHT YEARS ahead of its time...it was nearly SIXTY years ago and still looks awesome!

That I can get behind. Rear Window is Top 20 or 30.
The problem:
Vertigo is just a better film overall. Psycho is more influential. Notorious is underrated. It's hard to make a list of best films and not include 4-5 Hitchcock movies, and most people won't go that far just on principle.

Except Part 2 is usually ranked higher and would have been on this list
That's cray.
But different strokes for different folks.

I don't think Braveheart is in the top 700 films nor Die Hard in the top 400.

I love Rear Window, but when I got married, I slowly forced Mrs. Baloo to watch old Hitchcock movies. I thought Rear Window would be one that clicked with her, but it really didn't. It feels a lot more dated than some of his other work. I think it's the whole women's intuition thing being the key to the whole movie, It's kind of oft putting to a grown woman post-feminism. As Jeremy on SportsNight teaches us, women don't have special powers.
I'd personally have Rear Window in my Hitchcock top 5, but you could squeeze it out with some combination of these seven:
Vertigo
North by Northwest
Suspicion
Notorious
Psycho
The Birds
Rope
Suspicion and Notorious are sort of the Cary Grant twin killings. Both are just so so awesome. Suspicion has the glowing milk and Notorious has Grant being bitter and cold towards Ingrid Bergman... and that's just poor planning, my man. Then of course, there's North by Northwest.
I think Cary Grant is the single coolest human being to ever grace the earth. When I make decisions on what to do in a formal setting, I ask what would Cary do? (Which is why you should never wear a colored bow tie with a tux... can you picture Cary Grant doing that? No. Case closed). And NxNW is just Cary Grant awesomeness filtered through Hitchcock. But really, Martin Landau is the perfect henchmen stooge villain.

I think I dreamed writing this post last night
I'm in the middle of doing the same thing with mine. Notorious today! But yeah, I thought Rear Window would click more than it did.
My only slight change by be Birds for Saboteur which I think is just fantastic.
Accuracy, thy name is Baloo. I do the same thing
And yeah, there's no one cooler than Grant.

No doubt two of the best.

True. Unfortunately, I don't have a cleft chin in my closet.

With a seriously disturbed erotic attraction to James Mason. They'd make weird children together.

there are many Hitchcock movies that I haven't seen but vertigo so far and I think as evident by this thread is his best movie. the ending is so great.

It's a very underrated Hitchcock movie. One of my favorites of his.
Also any best of Hitchcock list must include Dial M for Murder & Strangers on a Train
