I would have liked it if Godfather I & II were separated, but I have no problem with them at the top.
Most people disagree, so much so that that is only 1 of 2 joined series. LOTR and GF.
I agree with you though, and I think it's alsight cheating.
Reason being, if the Star Wars movies were joined, I would assume they would be Top 3, maybe #1, if the Batman movies were 1, they would be in the Top 20, easily. So that means that movie sequels and series are favored over single movies. Being joined as one film is an advantage, a significant one.

13. The Sandlot (1993) Evans
Umm. WTF guys.
14. Sin City (2005) Miller
Figured it might have made it in on the tail end. One of the best graphic novel/comic books movies out there. And a ground breaking movie in the way it was shot.

16. No Country for Old Men (2007) Coen Bros.
17. Witness for the Prosecution (1957) Wilder

Smh.
29. Kill Bill vol. 1 & 2 (2003, 2004) Tarantino

31. Finding Nemo (2003) Stanton
32. Casablanca (1942) Curtiz
33. Tombstone (1993) Cosmatos
Ok I know this gets a ton of hate, but it also gets a ton of love. Am I just not seeing it on the list? Because this one truly surprised me.

My two favorite sports movies didnt make it.

38. The Dark Knight (2008) Nolan
39. Taxi Driver (1976) Scorsese

I agree that the Godfather is slightly cheating, but I think The Lord of the Rings works as a single massive film. Star Wars and TDK trilogy don't.

Not only that but it gets selective series choosing, leaving out Part III.

I've got mainstream tastes, and don't y'all ever forget it. 34/40 made the list from my ballot. I'll discuss my misses....
1 Vertigo 1958 Hitchcock
2 Fargo 1996 Coen
3 Memento 2000 Nolan
4 Seven Samurai 1954 Kurosawa
5 Casablanca 1942 Curtiz
6 The Good the Bad and the Ugly 1966 Leone
7 Bridge on the River Kwai 1957 Lean
8 GoodFellas 1990 Scorcese
9 Reservoir Dogs 1992 Tarantino
10 Das Boot 1981 Petersen
11 Citizen Kane 1941 Welles
12 Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981 Spielberg
13 Brazil 1985 Gilliam
14 Fight Club 1999 Fincher
15 The Thing 1982 Carpenter
16 Wings of Desire 1987 Wenders
Not a surprise it missed, but this film is f'n beautiful. The scene in the library is one of the greatest ever put to film. and it has the dishonor of the worst Hollywood remake in history. I can't even talk about it.
17 Platoon 1986 Stone
18 The Seventh Seal 1957 Bergman
Surprised it missed. Bergman just isn't in favor right now, which is a shame. He's a great director.
19 Trainspotting 1996 Boyle
20 Requiem for a Dream 2000 Aronofsky
I have to be misreading the list. I did a search for it and couldn't find it. I'm shocked this didn't make it.
21 Pan's Labyrinth 2006 del Toro
22 Die Hard 1988 McTiernan
23 The Prestige 2006 Nolan
24 Chinatown 1974 Polanski
25 E.T. 1982 Spielberg
26 Last Emperor 1987 Bertolucci
Bertolucci is a goddamned deranged genius. This is his masterpiece, and you're all just wrong.
27 Leon 1994 Besson
28 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 2004 Gondry
29 Do the Right Thing 1989 Lee
A movie carried by Danny Aielo's amazing performance. It's funny, Lee intends for us to side with the rioters, but at the end of the movie, I side with Aielo because of his fundamental decency. Sure, his kid is a schmuck, but only one of them. Still the first movie to go to for your quick primer on American race relations.
30 Blue Velvet 1986 Lynch
31 Dog Day Afternoon 1975 Lumet
32 Wall-E 2008 Pixar
33 North by Northwest 1959 Hitchcock
34 Godfather I&II 1972 Coppola
35 Barton Fink 1991 Coen
36 Rashomon 1950 Kurosawa
37 The Third Man 1949 Reed
Only one of the greatest film noirs ever made. Not only that, it's pretty funny.
38 Unforgiven 1992 Eastwood
39 Mr. Smith Goes to Washington 1939 Capra
40 The Matrix 1999 Washowski
1 Vertigo 1958 Hitchcock

I'm not surprised, but for such a powerful film I wonder why its mark on culture is so faint.

Like certain Kurosawa films I think it fell into the trap of listing other noir films first. Since we aren't ranking every single film we've ever seen (I'd give Third Man a 10 easily), but choosing films instead. People but DI or MF on the list and are done with noirs after that.
But classic noirs are as much out of fashion as Bergman, strangely enough because modern noirs are kind of a thing again.

Yeah, I think Part 1 is the superior film. If Part 1 and Part 2 were #1 and #2 on the list respectively, that's cool. I just think #1 deserves the respect of holding the top spot itself.

Finding Nemo didnt make it either? Theres another one of mine that missed.
Pixar dominated classic disney on the list. Nemo is the best Pixar (toy story trilogy excluded) film there is. Im getting mad now I need to step away for a bit.

Except Part 2 is usually ranked higher and would have been on this list. And without the pair, Seven Samurai may have very well taken the top spot.

35) Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Actually surprised this one didn't get on the list.
I mean, it was the first animated movie to ever be nominated for Best Picture.
That's significant. And it is, IMO, the best of the greatest Disney run ever.
Also, I cannot abide by the GF getting top billing over Seven Samurai.
I struggle to make it through GF 1 and only made it through the second after three sittings, resuming where I left off the night before. Just find these films to be incredibly boring and overrated.
Oh well.
ETA: Also surprised to see that Crime Dramas have better representation than westerns. Doubt that would have been the case twenty years ago.

I think you'd be wrong about that. In 1993 crime dramas were definitely more popular that westerns. They really haven't made many westerns post 70s.
You know, we should really do a westerns list.

I'm more surprised there are two westerns in the Top 15. I mean, I love Westerns, and a few around here do, but westerns just aren't popular.
