Watched this yesterday afternoon...what a boring episode. I don't know if it is because I do/did not care about the main characters that were in focus in the episode or what, but I thought it was awful (from an entertainment standpoint).
Henry seems to be the new Carl, making stupid decision after stupid decision and jeopardizing the entire operation. I cringe every single time he refers to "mom" and "dad." And I feel like the scenes with him and Darryl are supposed to be deep and I am supposed to connect with them, but they come off so corny and stupid that I end up laughing. "Darryl...I'm glad you and my mom are friends." Get the frick out of here.
There is zero reason this whisperer crew should not have been fired upon the second they walked up to the gate. They've already killed your friends, and they still arrive decked out in zombie gear and making threats. Kill them and be done with it. And yes, I realize that this is supposed to be some new huge part of the show, but that just seems extraordinarily stupid to try to talk to them. I am hoping Darryl doesn't get himself killed...he's one of the last people left that I actually sort of like on the show.
This episode felt like your typical TWD episode where it is 90% filler, and then the "oh shite" moment at the end of the episode falls completely flat and doesn't hit like they thought it would. At least for me. It's fun to bitch about though I guess.

I agree
This episode was a giant turd; and I would be extremely let down.
However having read the comics (which I obviously won’t discuss, I remain really excited for the show.

The biggest LOL moment was the Alpha flashback to when she killed the guy that was panicking by easily holding him down and I guess suffocating him by placing her hand over nose and mouth? The guy didn't even fight back at all

You don't fight back against the alpha. You just do what she says / accept death. Just like her husband did.

The ONLY possible reason to talk to them is to see if there is a possibility to get your two guys back. But with people as sick as the whisperer fricks seems to be, it's probably better just to kill them on sight and cut your losses.
Looks like from the preview for the next episode the two Hilltop guys (former Savior guy and new guy Luke) seem to be standing there with the whisperers with zombie skin disguises. So if Hilltop would have opened fire I guess they would have killed their own people which would have sucked and been somewhat traumatic, but probably still worth it.

I don’t think she even covered his nose. Haha!
I was happy when Coral died. Now we have Henry who may be worse. How the hell does that kid have a key to the jail?

Henry is cringeworthy every time he speaks

Daryl, et al aren't stupid, and they have experience. They know who they have and realize that if it was all-out war, they wouldn't walk up on them in broad daylight with no offensive posture. He's also holding on to hope that the missing two people are alive.
They know why these people are there. Lydia. Plus, as they are walking up, people are manning their defensive posts and are preparing for an order one way or another. Daryl could very well order them to fire. "The second they walked up to the gate" is the exact moment the episode ends, so you don't even know if they will do what you say they should have done.

That is what happens when you have a bunch of women running the show, hesitation instead of taking them out. But, if you take the Whispers out so goes more boring character development episodes.

You think that was all of the whisperers???

had to check out the train wreck for a laugh after reading some of the comments. OK, tubby woman falls on a fairly in-shape dude in his early 30s and he just... dies? In the history of mankind that scene has literally never happened and it will never happen, zombies or not. This show is utterly ridiculous when it comes to females. It makes me think this whole show takes place in an alternate universe. There is simply no other logical explanation for the show's approach to female characters.

You have to seriously suspend belief to deal with zombies. Now you have to believe that alpha can kill men by looking at them mean.

So how do the dead know someone is dead.
In past episodes, the living would cover themselves in the guts of the dead to walk among them. This would lead one to believe the dead smell other dead.
With the whisperers, they are covered in dried skin of the dead, which leads to the premise the dead see if one is dead.
So which is it, do the dead know the dead by smell, sight or both?

Did you forget about Carl's letter? The mentality of the show has changed. Only kill when you have to.
quote:
If they won't end it, you have to. You have to give them a way out. You have to find peace with Negan. You have to find a way forward somehow. We don't have to forget what happened, but you can make it so it doesn't happen again, and nobody has to live this way. That every life is worth something. Start everything over. Show everyone they can be safe again without killing, that it can feel safe again, that it can go back to being birthdays, schools, jobs and even Friday night pizza somehow — and walks with a dad and a 3-year-old, holding hands. Make that come back, dad. And go on those walks with Judith. She'll remember them.
They also don't know if they killed their friends, all she said was that she has them. Lydia suggested that she would have no reason to keep them alive but then again, she is still a mother and isn't going to kill anyone until she gets her daughter back

I had the same thoughts. Just a big WTF, there's no way she is capable of doing that unless the dude just wanted to die and let her kill him.
