"Why does it matter?" they always say dishonestly.

If it doesn't matter, why change it?

Let's just agree to keep traditionally white characters stay white, because it doesnt matter after all.

Obvious agenda is obvious.

Where did I say I wanted it changed? I said i'd rather Snape be cast as he looked in the books, but it isn't character ruining to change it, just like changing other characters looks didn't ruin the movies.

Stop lying, “woke” was a badge of honor for you nitwits up until the time people started to reject it so now you either claim it isn’t real or that it’s some kind of bigoted slur. Further proof of just how dishonest people like you are.

lol dude i don't participate in your stupid arse culture war.

"woke" is stupid. "anti-woke" is stupid.

DEI is stupid, bitching about casting every time they put a non-white person in a role is also stupid.

I'm not casting any damn TV shows. never have. I watch shows. thats it.

meanwhile you are worried about them casting a non-pasty guy as professor Snape

Like I said, dime store SFP.

He doesn’t care about this at all…proceeds to argue for it for multiple pages.

He does it in every single thread.

“I don’t even care about this…which is why I will continue to post non-stop about it.”

I care very much about the new Harry Potter adaptation. I don't care about them casting a black guy as Snape

Paapa Kwaakye Essiedu (/'p??p? ??si'e?du?/[3][4]) (born 1990) is a British actor.[5] He started his career in 2012 when he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company acting in numerous production including The Merry Wives of Windsor (2012), King Lear (2014), Hamlet (2016), and Romeo and Juliet (2016).

His breakthrough came with his role in the HBO the miniseries I May Destroy You (2020) earning nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award and British Academy Television Award. He portrayed George Boleyn in the Channel 5 miniseries Anne Boleyn (2021). He had starring roles in the AMC+ action series Gangs of London (2020–2022), the science fiction series The Lazarus Project (2020–2023), and Black Mirror: Demon 79 (2023).

Essiedu made his feature film acting debut as a policeman in Kenneth Branagh's mystery film Murder on the Orient Express (2017). He took roles in the folk horror film Men (2022), the Christmas fantasy Genie (2023), and the drama The Outrun (2024). He gained acclaim for his recent stage roles in Caryl Churchill's play A Number (2022), and Lucy Prebble's play The Effect (2023–2024).

Can't really question his acting bona fides, but from a character resemblance standpoint, they maybe should have considered offering the role to his wife.

The great whitewashing of black culture continues. Put a well spoken black man in a role /character originally white so to make black more like whitey. No more culcha with a hard R or A and violent. It’s political and manipulative as a psyop.
Hmmm...

Problem is, it gets played off as something modern and wonderful when it is indeed cowardly racist and demonstrative of keeping racism alive. By that I mean the prevailing in-your-face bs of “Those poor black people, lets over represent them and give them roles originally meant for white people. “
Hmmm... As roles as black villains to replace white villians in fantasy fiction as well. Sounds like a smart plan.
quote:

Let blacks and others write their own stuff and cast original roles. How has that worked out for those that did exactly this?
Hmmm...

When is the next rally? I'm kinda booked through the Holidays. Next month is when the sales are.

Btw, sorry to derail, but what that poster said is complete racist mouth-breathing.

Carry on with the rest of the thread fellas.

You mean me? Tell me why.

Tell me how to criticize without sounding racist.

Did I not make it clear that just about everything you initially posted is completely racist?

Are you asking me to spin your racism - better?!?

I can't tell you how to not be racist. That's on you. I just just have logical thoughts.

I didn't WANT them to cast Snape as a black actor. I just don't care that they did.

Because you don't care about the source material. Because you think racial equity is more important than reality.

I didn't make a thread about the casting, and I never would have.

Who cares who started it? The more you post, the more you aren't proving your point of not caring.

quote:

Skin color of the character literally does not matter to me any more than changing a characters hair color.

If it didn't, you wouldn't be defending it. but it does - so you defend it.

The issue is not "skin color" as you perceive it. It's character as described vs. changing the character as described for no reason. Stop trying to make this a race. This, actually, from the perspective of people who like it has nothing to do with race. Your perception is off. They want a very defined character to stay as defined. That's a "truth" issue, not a race issue. The truth is, Snape is a pale, blotchy skinned character, and any deviation of that is a deviation from the established truth.

well you guys are very wrong on this. I challenge you to go through my 10k posts and find where I ever complained about a white person being cast.

But you see, again, it has nothing to do with race.

Plenty of white people complained that a white person, Gal Gadot, was cast as a white person, Wonder Woman, because she didn't fit the character. It was a fine, and justified complaint.

People complained when Ledger was cast as Joker. People complained when Zachary Levi was cast as Shazam.

This has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with staying true to the source material.

I have made an observation that changing Snape to being black would solve the "white man evil" trope that you guys would have been complaining about if they went with a white guy.

Except he is not evil, he is a flawed figure that ends up doing right because of his failure to be there for the person he loved most. He sees the error of his ways and does better. Voldemort as a black man would be the casting to attack that trope. Honestly this guy as that casting wouldn't bother me in the slightest as much as him as Snape. Draco and the Malfoys race swapped would be an interesting take too.

Snape opens a new can of worms where you need some pretty serious story changes or much bigger race swaps to keep to the existing story without as much impact.
