She even drew a sketch of Snape to show his appearance in detail. Guess what, he isn’t black.

Try telling that to the committee that nominates films for best original screenplay. They said it was adapted.

Dear committee that nominates films for best original screenplay:

Barbie movie wasnt an adaptation. Anyone with common sense realizes that a movie about a childs toy that has no story is not adapting anything and is 100% original. Also you people are idiots. That is all

So you are saying the background and experiences of a black character will be exactly the same as a white character? Don't say that shite too loud. You might get cancelled.

He doesn’t know the criteria for adapted screen play so he just thinks Barbie and LOTR are the same things. He’s dishonest and not intelligent.

Can't wait for the flashback where Snape calls James a Muggle Fokker, in classic Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction style.

The show will fail on its current trajectory. This fan base they’ve made up in their minds doesn’t exist. The people they’re catering to are a very, very small percentage of the population and even some of those won’t tune in because they’re actual HP fans. Every time this happens it fails.

I think Corinthian45 is ok with Cho being White or Arab this go round. Right?

In the books:

Bellatrix to Narcissa: "I dont trust Severus."

In the new HBO series: "I don't trust His Black Arse."

That Noble Black family looking down on others.

As funny as it is...Cho's character would have been much better as an English girl. She almost seemed like some weird fetish character. The two most star power boys in the school just happen to both be head over heels for the one Asian girl in the school...its weird

Yes lol why would it matter. I hope they do this just so we can compare underreaction.

White cho would make more sense to why harry wanted her pies in the first place.

Better idea, give cho a weave and make her black and sit back and enjoy the melt like when raylen slept with the black district attorney

This board used to be a place to go to to avoid hearing about a lack of diversity. Now thanks to sek and his ilk its the same shite but 180° opposite. Noone watches movies or tv to hear about politics in movies. If we wanted politics we'd watch cnn or cspan or something.

Look at the poli board if you want a preview of how overanalyzing everything in life politically ends up. 400 threads per minute either bitching about something or celebrating something and no meaningful conversations and no neutral opinions welcome.

I don't care if a black actor is cast as a white book character in general. I just think it doing it with Snape will change the dynamic too much. It will make James appear racist when you get to the flashback of him an Sirius fricking with him at school and calling him a mudblood. I don't think that's an element that should be added to the story.

It also won't make Harry look too great when he always sees Snape as a dishonest a-hole with ulterior motives. It just seems like a poor choice.

Maybe if you also cast Sirius as a black guy it would help soften the tone a bit. You'd also then have a black character named Black, but that wouldn't be as big of an issue to me.

Pretty sure James and Sirius lynch Snape at one point. If that happens in this show it’s going to do irreparable damage to a lot of characters. Hell it might be the reason they race swapped Snape and if it is the IP is finished.

Not gonna lie...I thnk it would be fairly strange for a character named Cho Chang to be 100% caucasian but that's just me.

Paapa Essiedu As Snape Sets Off Five Different ‘Harry Potter’ Controversies

FORBES

Basically what's been said. He's not a pale white guy with long greasy hair (I'm Severus Snape, bitch!) The bullying from when James and Severus were kids. The mud-blood pejoratives, ...it's just a terrible, pointless race swap decision that's going to flop massively.

in summery...

And while there are some progressives happy with the attempt at diversity, something the original story lacked, others have noted this feels more like a corporation trying to placate more liberal fans who are upset with JK Rowling’s now-long history speaking against transgender issues. Outside of this casting, their relationship with this series has had a huge dynamic change since the original books and movies.

Not at all. I read it and then made a mental image of snape but as soon as i watched the movies that image of snape completely changed and snape now looks like alan Rickman in my head, despite that being nothing like the image i had of him pre-movies. It didnt ruin the movies for me at all that rickman didnt look like the image i had of snape in my head before, much like paapa essiedu not looking like Rickman wont ruin the show for me.
