His hand became a force ghost and guided his midichlorines to hold the blood back in his wrist.

The laser caurtorised the wound much like a bullet grazing your arm would.

Unfortunately I am nerdy enough to know that lightsabers are supposed to instantly cauterize wounds.

While this is true, they screwed that plot line up in A New Hope when Obi Wan cut off the guy’s hand in the cantina. There was blood on the ground.

It's the best of the original trilogy because Mark Hamill, the worst actor of his generation, spends a good chunk of the film alone with animatronic characters (Yoda and R2D2), rather than getting badly out-acted by Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.

Aliens requires much higher higher temperature to cauterize. Or at least, that's the retcon.

Put down the pipe there Smokey, it’s a work of FICTION.

Although Hamill was born in ‘51 & Nicolas Cage was born in ‘64, Cage gives Hamill a run for the bottom of the trade honors.
