And they should've ended the third movie on the logical closure point. Not the 25 endings that followed.
When fricking Fredo wakes up from his little coma or whatever and the little Hobbits are jumping up and down on his bed. And Sam leans in the doorway and gives him that very fricking gay look, I thought Sam was gonna tell the little hobbits to take a walk, so he could saunter over to Frodo and suck his fricking cock.
Now that would've been an Academy Award-worthy ending. And then right after the Sam/Frodo suck-fest, right before the credits roll, Sam fricking flat-out bricks in Frodo's mouth.

From a consistency and overall quality standpoint, it's Toy Story. Each movie stands well on its own and is extremely good in its spot in the order. The beginning is perfect. The middle story might be the strongest of the 3. And the ending is perfect.
Of course, they're making a 4th and I have the same doubts about that one as I did about the first 2 sequels. I'm hoping to be happily surprised yet again.

Parts of LotR are just as bad as RotJ, Star Wars is the better trilogy. Hobbit made everything worse for LotR, new trilogy of SW is making me completely reconsider the ranking though, much more so than the prequel trilogy.
