Stringer went into business for himself

What a brilliantly written show

I think Avon had enough of Stringer once he realized String wanted to pop a downtown n***a like THE Clay Davis.

Cheese getting shot in the head by Slim Charles almost made Prop Joes death worth it. That was epic and Slim Charles might be the best character on the show

He already had it.

He told Prop Joe that he had it, and they were OK with Joe's murder

I've tried to make that argument for years, but people over-value the street stuff in the Wire and don't like how it's critical of Marlo.

Over time it's becoming more accepted though, like the greatness of Season 2.

I’ve been on board with that. It’s the difference between street thugs fighting over petty crap like corners and “professional” criminals that never get caught

Bingo. Marlo's more concerned about street cred notoriety than the "good" life. Even watching the series unfold, Season 2 always been the best and most important season.

What upset me is that this is one of the few instances in The Wire where the facts didn't make sense. The Greeks were fools to do business with Marlo. Prop Joe was a gold mine for them and, besides the Omar robbery, had a very stable organization. The Greeks didn't give a damn about street rep. Hell they didn't want it. But that was the very thing Marlo craved above all. They should've tipped Joe off about it and let him decide what to do.

Yep. This is a big part of it for me, it didnt make sense.

Then Prop Joe being a personal favorite character just made it sting more.

Another great contrast is Stringer and Marlo. In S3 that scene with Avon and Stringer where Avon tells him he’s a man without a country, maybe not tough enough for the street but not smart enough for the straight business world. Stringer asks what did they get in the game for? So our name could ring out on some ghetto street corner?

In the last episode Levy takes Marlo to a cocktail party hobnobbing with all the developers, which is Stringers ultimate dream but Marlo hates it and leaves. He comes up on some guys on a corner and the name “ringing” out is Omar they don’t know who Marlo is

It was upsetting for us as watchers but it made the most sense out of any hit Marlo did. He hated the co-op, hated having to play nice with the other bosses he thought should dominate, and he "wasn't meant to play the son." He went from having to play nice, to making them all bow to him. If that wasn't clear, then you should've gotten the point as he walked out the last co-op meeting with an epic line I've been wanting to use in a negotiation but haven't gotten off yet: "Oh, and price of the brick goin up."
