I didn't think the episode was bad but I also had a hard time figuring out how it fit within the context of the show. Given everything we know about the characters, the idea of a sit down meeting btw Rick and the Governor seems a bit contrived. Seems like they are just drawing out the inevitable battle btw the 2 sides.
The Herschel/scientist and Darryl/mexican scenes were just hilarious. I lost it at the "douchebag" comment.

I was hoping that Darryl would have just put an arrow into Martinez' head. Guy is annoying and always a stupid look on his face.
I wonder if Rick realizes how crippled Woodbury is? The governor is way exaggerating his fighting force when talking to Rick.

I think us as fans know not to consider the offer. But we tend to forget that characters like Rick havent seen all the lies and evil that the governor is like we have. So he has to consider it. I think we all would if our families were at stake. My prediction, he agrees to give up michonne, and uses the exchange opportunity to take down the govs crew

Rick knows that the governor "mentally raped" maggie, had Merle torture Glenn, attacked the prison unleashing a truck of zombies
What more do you need?? Rick knows the dude is batshit crazy and not trustable

Between Merle, Maggie and Glen, he has more useful information about the Gov than Andrea has, and she's been living and sleeping with him.

My guess is that Michonne becomes a Trojan horse, of sorts.

I think Rick gets tipped off by someone. The Gov's right hand man seemed pretty ticked when he was informed of the Ambush. I think he defects to Rick's group at some point.

I did love how they told her to GTFO last night

Ok so correct me if im wrong but I think with the sit down it showed the governor and Rick are not that different. In that both men lost their wives and then the governor talked about becoming the leader of Woodbury pretty much by default because nobody was left. Rick to me was in the same boat because the group pretty much made him the leader and so he just took charge. I thought the episode was good. I know it wasnt the action packed episode we thought at the beginning but it was a good character episode that you had to listen to what they were saying.

It showed that their circumstances were not much different in order to highlight how much different their choices have been.

I don't think that happens...I think it will look like that is happening and then Milton will be killed (if him switching alliances seems like it's happening).

I thought that at first, but by the end of the episode, I realized that the only reason Gov had the sit down with Rick was to try to fool him into meeting again.
Gov and Rick both know that his offer (peace for Michonne) is bullshite. Gov even knows that Rick knows he's a psycho. IMO he just wanted to meet to show Rick that he could at least be trusted enough to be able to meet, man to man, without incident. And he did that so that Rick would be willing to meet him again and Gov could set up his ambush.
That was the whole point of the episode IMO.

This show is so much better without the Governor and Woodbery.
I know these threads are chock full of a irrelevant complaints, and I usually abstain from doing this, but I feel like this show could lose viewers if it doesn't resolve this story arc quickly.
The governor is not a scary villain. He's not a character that we have watched deteriorate in the midst of the apocalypse like we saw with Shane. He's just a punk bitch with a bad accent and in charge of douchey town. He's also managed to bring out the worst in Andrea's character - her pompous remarks combined with that "mad girl" head shake has me rooting for a zombie to gnash its teeth into her face.
A couple of things about this episode:
- Rick and the Governor should never have met. That's Rick fault. If they were going to meet the Governor, they should have had an assassination attempt. The guy sexually assaulted Maggie, allowed Glenn to be beaten, almost had Darryl killed by Merle, killed that one guy, busted down their protective gates, and unleashed a horde of zombies onto the prison premises. There was no negotiating here. When the governor sat down without a weapon and Rick was pointed at his face, he should have pulled the trigger. Have Darryl ready to take out the muscle. Milton and Andrea wouldn't have been threats; hopefully Andrea would have been bitten during the shooting.
- Beth shot a gun at the ceiling in a prison. Where was the ricochet?

Or the crying baby?
Disagree on the Gov angle. He is a bigger threat than a manageable zombie horde at the moment. All the reasons you listed are enough to be "scared" of him.
As I explained to my kid who asked "where are all the zombies", the zombie apocalypse is the back drop but the human aspect and encounters are the real story. How many zombie scenarios have we had where humans weren't the main focal point still? Not many.
If you take away the governor from season 3 all we have is a prison "island" and very few storylines.

Last episode was probably the worst episode I've seen out of all the seasons.

They could have resolved the governor angle quickly. We know what we're building up to. We've known for weeks that there's going to be a big shootout or black op that has Rick coming out on top. We'll lose a few characters, maybe. Might pick up a few. But all in all, it's nothing that pressing to the zombie apocalypse.
I think this show could really benefit from being more like a Fallout video game. Rick and his crew should be exploring this zombie world trying to find supplies and find people. Sure, they'll run into psychopaths like the Governor, but give it two-three episodes. Also, I'm sure some seriously bad shite happened around the world if the entire fricking planet was turning into zombies. The possibilities are endless.
Of course, budget restrictions probably inhibit this show from reaching its fullest potential.

I agree with this, the show was really taking off before the prison / woodberry / governor was introduced. Since then it seems there's been a whole season of "prison / woodberry" episodes. I wish whatever is going to happen between the two groups would hurry and happen and the series would move on.

IDK I think it has shown how vulnerable you can be in a prison. Safe from walkers but other clans can pose a major problem. A few snipers in the trees can slowly pick off Rick's group. After the war with the Governor I would think the plan would be to find someplace better than the prison.

Am I the only one who thinks its hilarious they haven't even hinted at a food shortage...I know they did for a minute at the beginning of the season but nobody looks unhealthy
little ridiculous IMO. Maybe they'll get a winter eventually in Georgia.
