Alcatraz = best zombie haven ever? Assuming they still have doors that can be shut somehow, you have isolation from the mainland, ability to seperate people in small areas for sleeping in case someone dies, I don't think any zombie could bottom walk there, etc. Only thing is I don't know about food supply in a place like that. Maybe if there was enough fish, seabirds, seals and the like around? Also don't know about the climate. Also, you might have to go near large population centers with tons of zombies to get there.
The guards used to live there with their families so there are residences on the island and land to be cultivated. Biggest problem is you would have to fight your way through SF to get there unless you came in from the north side

As long as you had working boats you could get the Alcatraz pretty easily without going through SF proper. Problem is the whole bay area is pretty well populated, so it would probably be easiest to come at it from up or down the coast via the ocean under the Golden Gate bridge.

Do you see how easily they kill them? They swipe/stab something at their heads and are done with it.
Yeah, their heads seem really soft. It makes me wonder if some sort of sonic weapon of mass destruction could be created to make all their heads explode.

Just took an episode quiz on the AMC website.
One of the questions was "What was the name of the place Daryl and the others heard a transmission from?"
We NEVER heard a name of who they are/where they are, did we?
I don't know if the answer is considered a spoiler - I would say no, since it came from the AMC website - but I will post it if y'all want me to.
And as a reader it came as total surprise to me, so it won't encourage other readers to make any "educated guesses".

Post it in the other thread first.

Read the quote. I definitely don't remember hearing that, would have been cool though if they made it more audible.

Heck, a place like the island the Statue of Liberty is one would be cool to set up camp. But once again, it's so close to mega populated areas so the zombies would probably be pretty dang thick trying to get there.
Re the radio transmission: It was pretty good they way they did that: Put in an obvious future plot point/foreshadowing but then hit the audience with the huge herd of zombies the harrowing escape and Carol's confession to overshadow it. If they hadn't done that, the radio transmission would probably be all that we talked about after the show. As it is, it didn't get that much speculation going.

es, the body is decomposing like a human body would normally decompose. that's why you see zombies like last night that are almost skin and bones but still have the brain activity.
It would really just be a waiting game of years until the vast majority of the zombies are too frail to move. Find an island and hold up.

In theory those places would all work, but it wouldn't want to be around all of the millions of humans trying to survive there. Being isolated is the way to go, remember the random encounter Rick had with the guys at the bar.

seemed like on the season trailer that transmission came in more clearly than it did on the show

Probably the single best scene I have ever seen on TV

That was one of the first times I realized people were worse than the zombies.
Great scene.
Great scene.

Something like Fort Mountain State Park in North Georgia would be perfect. Its in the middle of national forest land so its isolated/sparsely populated. Plenty of Deer/Bear/Fish on the property . If you have never been its a relatively tall mountain (for North georgia mountains) that rises impressively from the areas around it (makes it look a lot taller than it actually is). It is also very steep. Likely even a horde of Walkers would not transcend the steepness just walk around. Also being a state park there are camping/water treatment/solar/walls (it was an old confederate fort)/supplies there and it actually has two small towns (Ellijay and Blue Ridge). And right at the foot of the mountain is a very large apple/peach orchard called Mercer Orchards.
That is why somewhat realistically surviving a ZA (as realistic as an actual zombie apocalypse would be) is actually pretty simple to the point it would be a boring show/movie so you have to rely on them doing stupid stuff.
If the ZA started tomorrow I would just chill on the farm I currently live on. If it got overran, Lake Guntersville State Park is right near us. And like Fort Mountain it has a steep mountain and whats more its surrounding by a gigantic bass fishing lake. You would just chill at the park lodge on the mountain top and alternate between fishing on the lake and golf.

quote:Funny you should mention that, one of my ideal places (oh shut it, you've all thought about it) was Brass Town Bald just north of Helen, GA. Very steep to the summit, sparsely populated. Only issue with a high point would be water.
