So I finally got around to watching the series. I can't speak on the people in South Carolina or Florida but the portrayal of Joe Exotic and his park in Wynnewood, OK matches my recollections of the situation when I had a brief knowledge of the place in early 2013.
1. The workers were a shady group that all worshipped Joe.
2. The girl I had sex with twice worked caring for tigers but was not shown in the documentary. The place was almost like a prison. I remember her only being able to leave on Wednesday nights.
3. When I went to the park at her request to bust one out, I had to go to that office/store and sign in and the girl had to explain to the lady that I was her guest.
4. She was convinced at that time that Animal Planet or Discovery was going to pick up his show and that they were going to be celebrities. she was shocked I didn't recognize the name Joe Exotic.
Because of the timeframe of other events, all of what i know took place in March or April of 2013.

I stumbled across a joe exotic type zoo on a trip to Mexico, and the first thing I thought is what do they do with these cats when they become adults? Watching this documentary confirmed my suspicion.
What she does is rescue the cats that joe and doc would be euthanizing.

Yep. Lowe’s a smart guy. He knows it’s all about creating the perception that he’s rich and hot shite. That’s why he rented the mansion in Vegas and leases the hummer and whatever else he does. The wife and I just finished E4 last night and she had a pinpoint observation: there's not a single one of the main characters who are likeable after you get to know them.
In any documentary or series there's generally one or two of the main group of characters you like, the closest we get here is feeling bad for Don's first wife and family. It's a very odd place to be when watching a documentary but it's like the ultimate in train wrecks in that you simply cannot look away. It's the Trailer Park Trash Olympics... on steriods.

This is one reason why I disagree with the people ripping Carole's business.
She clearly bred tigers in the past, and her zoo isn't the palace she claims it is, but the worst part of what Joe and Doc do is breeding for cub shows. She doesn't do that and provides a location for cats that might otherwise be euthanized.
Joe and Doc are disingenous when they say she does the same thing. She operates a zoo, but the breeding and cub shows are the bad part, not just operating a zoo.
