Agreed. He's a much more skilled actor now after nearly 40 years to hone his craft... He's the reason I'm excited about this film.

From what I saw of Hamill in that trailer, he looks better than I thought. He might have his best performance ever on screen in this one

I was thinking the same thing!

"When I found you I saw raw, untamed power."

I believe that is Snoke actually speaking about Rey, the only person that we know of as completely raw at the moment is her. In saying that I know it's most likely Kylo, but something tells me it could just as easily be Rey. I do think it is blatant misdirection because throughout the whole time Snoke is speaking here, we see constant references to Kylo Ren.

"I've seen this raw strength only once before, it didn't scare me then, it does now."

I think Luke is referring to the Emperor here. In the OT he constantly said he wasn't scared of Vader or the Emperor. Which is further evidence to me that Rey is somehow related to/clone of the Emperor. Rey means king is Spanish.

"Fulfill your destiny"

I believe that Snoke is talking to Luke. Snoke believes it was Luke's destiny to turn to the darkside. Part of me thinks we may see Luke turn.

Also, something I caught was that the only people actually talking in the trailer (not counting Finn's, "come on!" are all force sensitive/users except for Poe. I feel like that was deliberate. I believe we will find out that Poe is a force user, possibly another Skywalker? (he is the best pilot in the resistance, a la Skywalker) It's out there, but I find it odd he was the only one that spoke that wasn't a known force user.

Great article on whether Rey is a Palpitine or Kenobi.

Weird bump, but I didn’t want to start another thread...Palpatine makes more sense to me if you go by the little things.

One interesting theory I heard (which is a little far-fetched) is that she’s akin to Snoke in that she’s been “awakened” as well.

I think it’s been determined that all of the Snoke being a previous character in Star Wars can go away. According to the new canon, he’s just an ancient creature from the far reaches of the galaxy. There are some deeper theories out there, but nothing revolutionary, or surprising.

his piloting skills in TFA were not human, especially when rescuing Han and Rey from the First Order at the cantina. A human simply would not be able to pilot like that without the assistance of the force.

I originally thought, before TFA came out that Poe was going to end up with force powers and team up with Kylo.

I doubt that though. I wonder if Maz will return?

Depending on which way Kylo goes that could possibly still be true. As someone pointed out earlier, Poe is on the right (dark side/First Order side) of the poster. That may be coincidence, it may be misdirection, or it may not.

he definitely wasn't at the top of his game when he confronted Rey (who he seemed to have some sort of connection to, which probably also messed with him)

Correct.

You wouldn't want to kill your "soulmate" would you? Kylo has "compassion" for Rey , was fricked up from the blaster from Chewie, and felt weakened from killing his father (extra info from the book, this is canon). Kylo was definitely not fighting 100%, far from it, he wasn't even looking to defeat/kill Rey. He is absolutely obsessed with her. In Episode 8, we will see Rey return some of these feelings back.

quote:

No he doesn't. He toys with Finn

He was 100% toying with Finn. Kylo has possession issues when it comes to Rey. When Rey escaped the torture room, Kylo blew his childish fuse. Who was Kylo glaring at when Chewie shot him after killing Han? Not Chewie, who almost killed him, but Finn. Kylo was triggered there was a man with Rey. The fight with Finn was a bar fight, Kylo wanted to show dominance, that he was the better male. He pounds his chest, calls Finn a traitor, and claims that Rey is his. In fact, he straight up punches Finn in the fight. There was no need for brawling, the match would have been over in seconds if Kylo (even thought severely weakened) was intent on killing right away.

quote:

I'm just saying - Kylo may be on par with Rey in terms of power, but it definitely didn't seem like it by the end of TFA. I'm sure it will come out in The Last Jedi, and that's what I am excited about.

In terms of raw power and potential they are probably equal. Kylo has had much more training. They are of the same coin, both represent the force literally (physical form), the light and the dark, balance, ying and yang.

Speaking of ying and yang, do you know the code name for this movie was Space Bear, featuring a panda bear art which is also a symbol for ying-yang?

I'm pretty that was a reverse misdirection. Snoke never found Rey. In TFA, Kylo told Snoke about Rey first. Snoke "found" (aka stalked and seduced) Ben when he was young. I'm 99% sure he was talking about Ben.

Rey also sounds like ray, like in the term "ray of light". Just for fun, in TFA, look where the light is emitting from in Han's death scene. Is there any light when Kylo Ren kills Han? The only way Kylo will turn back to "good" will be through a ray of light. Literally and figuratively.

I don't think she will be related to the Emperor, even though I really want to. However, she fights just like him and has a (purposeful) aristocratic accent. If there is any relation to a past character it would be Queen Amidala reincarnated. Rey is used for both male and females in Spanish.

Interesting, at the end, Poe is a badass no matter what. Would prefer less "every one is force sensitive! You get the force! You get the force!" though.

Wow, you are right. Could be an art decision though, but LF/Disney puts every detail carefully. After all, Rey and Kylo are literally next to each other, saber/staff equally parallel, and a light between them in the TFA poster too, a big hint. Would not be surprised to see Poe turn dark this trilogy.

quote:

For the record, Rey is wearing the outfit she wore at the end of TFA when Kylo takes out his hand for all of you dumb enough to think Rey would team up with him. Classic editing misdirection with two different scenes.

It is a double-misdirection, I do agree with both parts of the trailer scene being two different scenes, but Disney/LF is preparing us for when the pair unites.

Rey and Ben will join together to defeat Snoke and balance the force in Episode 9. I think the decision to work together will start in this movie.

quote:

It appears Kylo blows up Leia’s Ship and kills her.

I'm almost certain Kylo will not kill his mother, in fact he may even save her. Kylo will begin his redemption arc in this movie. Leia will not die in the movie (or die at all, remember CGI can be used for Episode 9) until Kylo reunites with his mother (through the pull to the light from Rey). This reunion will probably be in the beginning of Episode 9 or end of 8.

quote:

I really hope they don't go with the Rey being the re-incarnated Anakin bull shite

Not reincarnated Anakin, but close. It is the Force that matters not who her parents are. There is that interesting theory floating that she represents Padme reincarnated in the Force out there. Not as confident as this one though but seems interesting and would fit the symmetry and poetry of all nine episodes...
