Actually when he was going to let his mom get her finger chopped off b/c he wouldn’t admit what he did to his brothers, that’s when i figured Vic wasn’t making it.

Was this show worth watching? I’ve purposefully stayed away from reviews, and this thread, until the show ended so I could just binge it. Did the board enjoy it?

Incredible show. Near perfect television.

I love nudity, but I understand at its core , this is a Batman off shoot and you can’t do it even though it’s HBO

This is on par with the other great HBO limited series shows. That's all I'll say about The Penguin.

You don't need to go in with any Batman lore to enjoy this one. Colin Farrell deserves this spotlight.

For sure - as does Cristin Milioti - thank you for your service!

Wow. What a finale. What a show..

Couldn't fall asleep after I turned the TV off because my mind was racing from the show.

“I know, it’s everything you wanted,” to his mother. He did not pull the plug, as promised. Good stuff.

They kept sucking us back into thinking Oswald might have some small redeeming quality, and then they just blasted us with his sick, selfish, perverse, psychopathic reality.

I personally never got sucked back in. I think it was Esquire(?) maybe that said early on in this thread that he was dreading when Oz was going to kill Vic. I hadn't thought about it before but after he said that I was like yea, it's definitely coming. They built it up to the absolute peak of you liking/rooting for Vic when he drops the "you're like family" line and then kills him off. Tough scene.

I knew it wasn't going to happen but I really would have liked Oz to get his face blown off. It has been a long long time since he had any redeeming qualities for me. Amazing character but he is an absolute scumbag and has been since he was a kid. Even if he wouldn't have killed Vic or didn't leave his mom in a veg state, I would have had zero sympathy for him and would have preferred for him to die. He's just that bad of a person. That just drove it home for me.

The outfit he had on at the end was so legit though as far as matching up the comic book look to a real world look. Just missing the monocle. It's going to be cool seeing him go against Batman.

kind of thought Vic would die by someone else's hand and then he'd lose his last bit of humanity...but after they revealed he killed his brothers, it was clear that ship sailed long ago

but to your point, the show accomplished its goal of being entertaining, giving you the backstory of a villain without making him a sympathetic figure, and now you completely detest him well done

I was very very meh on The Batman but this has me interested again

I'd risk it all for Sophia. I can fix her.

I was thinking during the finale (possibly during the scenes with Sofia in that dress) that any other HBO series of this ilk would've had nudity in the first episode (to draw male viewers in for the long run).

Of course this series didn't need that.

Reading up on it, when he told him he was like a brother to him, I should have seen it coming

I didn't think about it before now, but I think that when Victor told Oz he was dancing with his mom, that is when he probably knew that he was going to kill him. Can't be sharing ma with NOBODY.

Pretty sure there were some street titties in the first or second episode from some hookers.

According to the showrunners after the episode his motivations for killing him were different. It was because Vic had seen him at his absolute most vulnerable state and Oz basically cared about nothing but power so someone that power hungry couldn't have someone around that knew his vulnerability. Vic could possibly be a threat don the road because of what he now knew, even though Vic wasn't viewing it that way. Oz was fully going to the dark side by killing Vic, he knew that's what it would take if he wanted to gain the power he truly wants.

His mom was also in a vegetable state by that point so he wouldn't really be sharing her with Vic anyway.

What made the series finale not so great for you? I thought it was one of the better season finale's in reason memory.

It seemed like he killed Vic because he loved him and that made him vulnerable, just like he’d just experienced with his mother when Sofia had her.

Farrell should get an Emmy nom for this. I can’t even imagine it’s him playing Oz while watching.

Holy hell what a show. I figured he’d do something to screw Vic over but not kill him directly. I really hope oz is “the guy” in the next Batman or else all this feels for nothing.

This was made explicitly clear in the dialogue

This show was nothing short of amazing. Kid Oz better win some big awards. He killed his character.

Such a well done show
