So typical King.

Endings aren't his strong point.

Damn, I didn't realize that two episodes came on last night. HBO GO only showed one, but that may he have been because I started the first one before the airing ended.

I enjoyed the first episode. Is the story supposed to have anything supernatural in it? Is this going to be like an evil twin/doppleganger type thing?

I dont know anything about the book, but I just watched Dark on netflix and all I can think about is time travel at this point. The person in the hoody keeps showing up everywhere there is an important event.

The Outsider - HBO premieres tonight

I don't get HBO. Does anyone know if you can back in from Prime? I guess in May I need to dive into HBO+.

Edit: Yeah, it can be viewed via Prime.

I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was expecting. I think it’s because it wasn’t what I was expecting. I came in just expecting a cool murder mystery. I picked up pretty quick that there was some supernatural shite or something going on, and I was like “frick”.

Then after the first episode, I saw King’s name in the credits. That’s when I knew for sure this wasn’t anything like what I was expecting.

I also didn’t really like how they kept going back and forth up to the point of arresting Bateman. I found myself being annoyed by characters I was clearly supposed to be sympathetic towards.

I’ll finish it out since it’s only 10 episodes. That’s the great thing about a miniseries.

It’s a small town and everyone knows everybody... cop doesn’t want to ruin a family if Bateman didn’t do it especially since he was a stand up citizen (which the prints on the book prove) . This is heavily implied. Also the lead detective lost his son to cancer so he buries himself in his work... he’s still haunted by this which is why he didn’t want to talk about it to the therapist and that he saw his sons face when he pulled the mask off the shooter. I guess I had the opposite reaction you did

Definitely a show I rewatch to notice the subtle details

SPOILERS BELOW

This was the most disjointed two hours of television I've seen in a long time.

I have zero connection to any character in the entire show. I am at a loss as to the motivations of the lead detective to continue his investigation when the DNA matched the saliva (did I miss that?).

The show thus far has no natural flow, and the choppy dialogue and introduction of characters is definitely like some shite stephen king would write. I don't know why this show frustrated the way that it did, but I won't be watching another episode.

I mean, is this a shutter island type of thing where the dude is locked up in an insane asylum and we are being fed his delusions? Is there a false narrator telling the entire story that we are seeing? Frankly, I don't know, and have such little emotional connection with a single character...I don't care.

My kind of review.

Upvote deployed.

I'll watch it soon enough and chime in.

You likely know by now but yes there is a supernatural thing going on in it. Pay attention to the thing in the hoodie.

Yes, I watched the second episode on Tuesday. Pretty obvious now its some kind of shape shifting demon.

Ben Mendelsohn is so damn good. Definitely one of the bests alive right now.

I hope we get to see hooded dude's fricked up face.

yeah after the first episode I was thinking either multiverses or time travel

but its pretty clear now the hooded guy used his blood to copy him

now I guess the mystery is the motivation

I hated him in Bloodline. That's how good an actor he is. And I was blown away when I heard an interview and he spoke in his native Australian accent. Yeah, he is pretty good.
