No official announcement has been made by the show’s previous home of Hulu, or from the broader Disney company. However, “Orville” fan podcast “Planetary Union Network” confirmed the news on Reddit, citing members of the production team. The podcast has had a history of members of the production breaking news through the show. Those behind the podcast also cautioned that Season 2 of Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted” series for Peacock would be filming first and that “Orville” sets needed to be rebuilt following the long hiatus.

I thought it was canceled and found this out yesterday. Terrific news!

Reminded of MTVs favorite YouTuber and his rant on shill critics.

I've never seen anything like Orville. Starts off as a comedy genre mocking Star Trek, realizes the characters and plots are legit, and turns into a better Star Trek than a lot of Star Trek.

Damn good show!

If I wanted to watch this show, just start on S1 E1 and go from there?

Yes. It is a subtle evolution from comedy to a more serious tone, but the whole thing is great.

The serious tone is the comedy.

What’s the deal with this show? It gets high praise & lots of good reviews yet struggles to stay on air .

And it’s not like there isn’t a need for a good television.

The shift from Fox to Hulu came with the Disney buying Fox, I don’t think it was struggling as much as it got paywalled. Then the subsequent struggles have been scheduling related. Seth McFarlane has too many babies to take care of.

It is basically everything Star Trek could have been, had they not decided messaging trumps story.

There is TONS of politics in Orville, but you never feel preached at, or condescending

Seth is the king of self awareness. His character even fights a child being transitioned (he loses, and he is very sore about it).

I disagree here.

They were never mocking Star Trek.

They may have played up some of the more comedic aspects, but it's always been more of an homage.

I've not followed the series, for the delays and network jumps, but I do recall a social credit episode. That was solid Sci-Fi theme right there, speaking to what's going on in China as we speak ( and other places)

Like the original Star Trek, they tackle social issues regularly and they do a pretty balanced job of it. Members of the crew often disagree with the customs of some aliens they are dealing with but the opposing side is usually fleshed out pretty well. They aren't set up as one dimensional villains so the crew can preach at you, they acknowledge that the universe is complicated and messy and there isn't always an answer that is good for everyone.

They also had a fell in love with a holodeck character episode, so I'd say Black Mirror is some inspiration for the show as well.

One of the things I taught my kids that Social Media has beaten oput of the current generation:

Every "hot button" political issue is a moral argument in which both sides have a morally correct and valid foundation. Each side just thinks their moral ground is sturdier than the other's.
