I'll have to look for that on the second viewing. If that's the case, I'd say they were the future equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters.

Or the other possibility is that it was a home game for the Yankees. Coop could have lived in New York. Really nothing saying it had to be in the south or midwest.

didn't think we needed to
And that's probably where I differ from a lot of people on this movie. I love all of the Nolan movies. I loved the philosophy behind this movie. Even though I didn't get EVERYTHING right away, I still loved the mystery behind it all. I felt a movie like Inception didn't need a lot of explanation because of the nature of the story. I guess I just expected a space time travel movie to be more explanatory in the questions it raises.

I thought the acting was great. I thought the visuals were good at times, but I really didn't feel like I was on a space adventure. Too many closeup shots of the spaceship to see the broad scope of things. Maybe I'm a CGI juncky. I don't know. I just wasn't feeling that the special effects were that great. Just my opinion.

They had a few funny comments between Coop and TARS early on

The first joke TARS said when they were taking off, something about "plenty of human slaves for my robot colony" was hilarious

I thought the casting was fine. The only one I did not like was Damon.

Neither of them are terrible, but I think him and Hathaway were miscast. It's pretty surprising to me that Nolan didn't cast Marion Cotillard in that role, since she would have been perfect, and think she could have really sold that speech about love being able to transcend time and space better than Hathaway did. I think she was first announced as being in talks for the project, but then it switched to Hathaway, so I'm not sure what went on behind the scenes there, but she wasn't a bad replacement if Cotillard was the one Nolan wanted originally for the project.

As for Damon, it really just seemed as if when he popped up Nolan pretty much told the audience, "Ladies and gentlemen, please give a big round of applause for Matt Damon!" Yeah, it was cool he shows up right the frick out of nowhere, but I was thinking Mann was older before we first saw him. And his diatribe on human nature, I don't think I completely bought it coming out of Matt Damon's mouth. I really think either Terry O'Quinn or Bryan Cranston should have had that role, and not Matt Damon.

NASA is ruined. Everyone hates it. Let's pick up the whole shop and hide in New York City.

I don't think that they had NORAD missile silos in New York. I thought they were primarily in the midwest.

It's funny how Nolan has made you think this way. You only picture actors who have been in his previous movies as possibilities for roles. There are other actors out there

Bryan Cranston

Would have been very good

I thought it did a good job at answering all the questions...

the paradox with the wormhole is my only real question

I like the camera angle on the spaceship. It looked like the camera angle we get from NASA.

New York City doesnt exist anymore. The population would have moved out of the cities and into the largely empty spaces to the east. Plenty of land available for farming in New York State. Nothing says they have to be the New York City Yankees. Just the New York Yankees.

Plus much of NASA would have been in DC. Not too far to move things if it rural New York.

It was definitely THE yankees. Yes they had a banner in RF that said "World Famous New York Yankees". Donald asked who these scrubs were because they had real ballplayers in his day. Then Coop said that they didn't even HAVE sports when he was growing up because of the food crisis.

Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't tell us exactly where they were, but due to the mountains in many of the backgrounds, I doubt they're in Kansas or Nebraska like we'd think. I think they were close to a former major city, and New York was my guess, but more that they had moved into upstate New York instead of near the city.

Then why move NASA at all?

Mm worked for NASA a few years earlier before they "closed". Guessing that meant they were in Texas to start right?

I would think that being non discript with location and time would help the audience suspend disbelief.

They obviously moved it. There wasnt a giant hanger outside the building and they had to keep out of the public eye.

Can't see it being Southern Cal, but I'd buy that this took place in Northern Cal, but not sure why NASA would be out there since they really have few ties to that state.

This is kind of what I mean by they didn't explain enough. Not necessarily the philosophy behind it all, but the basic stuff. Like where were they? How many people were left? Was that the last town on earth? Where were the rest of the people? What kind of condition was the rest of the world in? Just my opinion.

The more I reflect on Interstellar, the more impressed and curious I become. I appreciate all of the insight this thread has put forth. I will be seeing it again, but was wondering if anyone who has seen it more than once - were there a-ha moments that you may have missed the first time that you may care to share. TIA.

Loved Tars. (reminded me of Silent Running)

And yes, as mentioned before - the docking scene was unbelievably intense. I may have destroyed the seat arm from gripping it so tightly.

I wonder if you'd be able to tell if you looked closer at the map MM used to find NASA.
