I agree on Dallas Buyers Club
not so much on 12 years
I don't want to get into why on here, but in short they took an amazing story and botched the hell out of it knowing what they made would be enough to race bait viewers and voters into giving them what they want out of it.

there's nothing in there that's "race baiting" unless you're some kind of slavery denying retard.

You obviously don't understand what I meant.
The film felt like it was poorly made, in my opinion,
I have a theory that sometimes movies that involve racial/historical issues get more love from viewers/voters because of the issue. Even if the film is not good.
I said the story is incredible and sad, but HOLLYWOOD did a poor job telling the story.
Just because a movie deals with race and/or slavery doesn't automatically qualify it to be awe inspiring cinema.

Lincoln would be a good example of that, not 12 years.

I really don't know what to say to that. The only movie that gave me the feels at the end like 12 Years was Schindler's List.

That whole thing with Bill Clinton presenting Lincoln at the Academy Awards and Michelle Obama presenting the Best Picture award seemed a bit much.
Appeared that they really expected Lincoln to win.

Well. . . I have a very different opinion about The Wolf of Wall Street than most on this board. I've given it some thought, and I think Wolf is the worst Scorsese movie I've seen (granted, there are many I haven't seen). It certainly doesn't compare to Scorsese's great works (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Departed, etc.), and IMO it's not in the same ballpark as some of this year's likely Best Picture candidates (American Hustle, 12 Years a Slave).
Some thoughts on the movie. It was all over the place. It was long, and unlike many people, the time did not fly by for me - it dragged on. I didn't find any of the performances to be great. Leo was good, as always, but this performance isn't in the same zip code as his previous masterworks (The Aviator, The Departed). If he wins Best Actor for this, it will be a make-up award for past robberies. Hill was good, nothing special. And Robbie was terrible. I don't know what everyone saw in her performance (apart from her undeniably sexy body), but it was not good.
There were some funny moments in the movie, but not that many. Scorsese is - well, should be - better than physical humor: jerking off, sticking candles in asses, guys paralyzed by drugs, etc. I don't find any of that shite funny. It felt like amateur hour. . . Then again, I'm sure most audiences enjoy that stuff. They should go watch Grudge Match or something.
There were a few scenes I thought were great and should have had a place in a much better movie: the early scene with McConaughey, the yacht scene with the FBI, the speech re: Steve Madden IPO. But overall, I think Scorsese really missed an opportunity with this one.
Overall score: 6/10.

When you get down to it, this is pretty much my opinion.
Will it be remembered as an all time classic? Not a chance in hell. But it was fun and it delivered on its promise of showing rich dirtbags behaving very badly.
I thought Leo was great but if he gets an award nod, it will be (probably) a makeup for previous slights but I can live with that and I think Jonah Hill should at least get a nomination because he hit his role out of the park. So did McConaughey but his was a lot shorter.
It was three hours of Leo and Scorcese letting loose and having some fun. I enjoyed it. I knew going in it wasn't going to be Saving Private Ryan.

Reminds me of Baldwin in GGGR, as blaphemous as that may seem. He killed it

Him crawling to his car would make a good "In."

Could have been great but Scorcesse spent an hour on bullshite that could have been established with much little time.
i thought the movie was very entertaining and it had some really great performances. it was really funny and pretty engaging
but it did drag on and needed a lot of editing. it was derivative also...we've seen this movie before. hell anything actually involving the FBI was stupid, because they didn't spend any real time on the investigation. it was the reverse deus ex machina, in how it just fell into their laps. the movie wasted a lot of time establishing the conflict with the FBI when it was silly...we've all seen these movies before, and hell we've all seen the previews. we knew the coppers were going to go after them and "Get them" at some point.
8/10
not worth going to see in theaters, except to watch old people leave early
