I am so hyped for this.

Can’t wait to edit my post after it’s done

It will at worst be a mediocre film, clown shite notwithstanding.

I'd pay admission just to see the cave scene with the cyclops.

My only casting issue was John Leguizamo. If you want an old man, hire one and save on hair and makeup.

I saw it this afternoon.

It was okay. I really liked the challenges Odysseus and his men faced on the return trip home. The giant, the soldiers, the witch, the huge whirlpool and creature, and the sirens. I also liked the Troy flashbacks and necromantic ritual with Elliot Page and Agamemnon.

Pretty much everything that occurred at Ithaca with Odysseus’ family and the suitors was kinda boring.

I wasn’t disappointed (overall) based on my expectations - which were fairly low - but I don’t really have an interest in seeing it again.

Hopefully we'll get good discussions here. All the complaining can stay on the other thread

When I said complaints, I'm talking about the DEI stuff that so many of you are obsessed with. Try and keep up

I haven't seen it. Not sure I will until it's streaming.

So positive reviews only? Can you update the thread title to reflect that?
I think it's pretty clear what he meant: discuss the movie that you saw. If you have issues with something you actually saw, that's fair game. Share your own impressions of the film.

Just don't bring in all the "that youtube guy says ____ about it" stuff; leave it in the other thread.

Spoiler alert *** (I know what the thread says, and agree there really shouldn't be any real spoilers for a film based on a 2800 year old poem, but undoubtedly someone will be pissed off).

I had a window of time to see it today and saw the standard format. I plan to see it with my family this weekend in IMAX format. I've read the poem multiple times at multiple stages of my life and think it is one of the greatest pieces of literature the world has ever seen, either taken alone or with the Iliad.

I enjoyed the film in its own right, but had some issues that even though present didn't ruin it for me.

Things that came to mind right off the bat were that Odysseus' ruse of acting like a madman to stay home with Penelope and the way it was uncovered was omitted. Also Polyphemus is never mentioned by name and the "I am No Man" trick is left out. They also left out his time with the Phaeacians and his wedding blessing for Nausicca, one of the most beautiful passages in the whole poem. Also was looking forward to how they framed the Phaeacian "full self-driving" ships but as I mentioned, no Phaeacians at all.

Also didn't love the way the did the Calypso parts either, making her a composite with the land of the lotus eaters passages and also leaving out his denial of Calypso's offer of immortality which is juxtaposed to his conversation in Hades with Achilles where Achilles basically tells him he would trade all his glory and might for immortality if he had the choice again (Achilles doesn't show up in the movie.

Also, I thought the climax in the great hall could have been better, but did like the way they had Odysseus and Penelope sail west to honor the dead which reconciles Tiresias' prophesy that after returning home Odysseus will leave again.

Remember how easy it was to learn your ABC’s? Thank the Phoenicians—they invented them.
