Dude some of them attacked me for predicting the movie would make more money than the News Rags they worship. Thats how insane they are. If I would’ve given the movie a 10/10 they would’ve attacked me.

These fans don't seem to understand that Helen being as mid as she was in the film was by design. And that isn't Helen in that bottom photo, that is her sister - Clytemnestra. Nolan made them twins.

It’s a typical skin suit movie. It’s not the Odyssey it just uses the name an iconography to deconstruct the actual story. Makes it very dull and uninteresting and though it had some good set pieces they were way too brief and weightless to makeup for what was left out.

It's an adaptation of The Odyssey.
Adaptations don't have to be 100% faithful, especially when the source material has been around for 3,000 years and has been adapted in film, television, song, and stage play throughout that intervening time.

It’s a subversion admittedly not an adaptation. There’s a difference and the the age of it or how many times it’s been retold is irrelevant to the point you’re trying to make. You’re making the argument that whatever’s in the movie is good because it’s in the movie. Thats a poor argument.

I just couldn’t get into it, was expecting Elliot Page and the girl they got to play Hellen to be a problem, but it really wasn’t. Just too slow, very poor acting, though I thought Damon did OK and thought Hathaway was the best performance, and Damon’s first mate was decent, every other character seemed forced. Just really had my hopes up that it would be a good movie, one I’d watch again, down the road, but it’s just not. The marketing and influencers were just wrong on this one..

Agree Hathaway was the best performance. Most of the acting was wooden and I think it was because of the dialogue, choice to use modern slang and the direction not matching that change. Also, nobody’s talked about it yet but the Zeus’ Law thing was flat out retarded.

Agree with Hathaway was great, Tom Holland , not so much. Overall really liked it once we arrived at the sideways one eyed Polyphemus.

IMO Holland was good in some scenes and not in others. The dialogue didn’t match with the energy. They used modern slang but talked in a cadence that called for like a Victoria type dialect. If he was going to use modern parlance the characters should’ve just talked that way. Trying to blend the two was very distracting.

Having just got out, it was good, but it didn’t leave me in a state of awe like Prestige, Dark Knight, Inception or Interstellar did. It was good though, there’s just something about it that didn’t give me that amazing factor
There were some great set pieces though. The Cyclops being my favorite, I think his roar was one of the coolest sounds I’ve ever heard.
The giant dudes in armor was cool but kind of a letdown. When they showed up in those pine trees I knew what was coming and got excited, but I feel like it only lasted less than 5 minutes. I wish that encounter was longer.
The end kind of dragged for me I guess. I knew the ending from Wishbone (tGOAT) so I knew what he was gonna do but it just went on too long and didn’t really hit for me like I thought it would.
Overall good film, the casting choices annoyed me going in but they had like 10 minutes screen time total between them all so that had no affect for me.
I’d rank it behind the Nolan films I already mentioned. Don’t know why it’s as high as it is on rotten tomatoes, I don’t think it’s that worthy but it is good. Given this years slate of films I’d imagine it cleans up at the Oscars. Holland should get a nom for sure he was good.

I will add, for being a King, Odysseus gotta a lot of lip from his men. I was kind of laughing at how often they disobeyed him or talked back to him but I guess that comes with 10 years of wandering

If you want a real score from the public you'd have to get rid of all the 1 star and 10 star reviews and there's no way to do that.

I'm not a Greek history expert but in general military discipline was much, much tougher in the past. Hell, read Undaunted Courage and how discipline was handled as recently as 100 years ago.
