I watched it tonight. I’m glad I saw it. I do think it’s deep and interesting. I do not like the end and there are shaky spots in some other places.

Interestingly enough I was just reading a book about occultism earlier today that does kinda explain the ending. The subconscious need to take part in ritual and all that. Still, I didn’t like that portion and makes me not super keen to rewatch.

Also, to be honest, while serviceable, I don’t think Finnes portrayal was one that fully worked for me. He seemed almost drugged for most of the movie. There are many ways the role can be played, just didn’t particularly work for me.

Still an interesting movie and definitely worth watching

Totally couldn’t read that article and had no idea it was even important.

Nobody in the room caught it either.

There's a GIANT photo of him smiling while working on a hamburger grill. it's positioned in the center of his room. the article fills the frame.

idk how else to make it more obvious. were you pumping in carbon monoxide into the room? you need better friends.

Honestly, I probably was looking at my phone. I’m not normally one of those type people but we had a family member in the hospital. That’s about the way luck goes sometimes. Oh well even knowing it it was still meh. Not the worst movie ever.

That title is still held by “Lost in Translation” followed by “White Noise”.

I understand not liking it but calling it the worst ever is a weird flex.

20 minutes left and The Menu is just not good. It's like a bottle episode stretched out for two hours.

It wasn’t dog shite, but could’ve been so much better! Had a great idea and started off good then just fell off.

Agreed. It was Netflix levels of formulaic. I was honestly shocked when the girl who escaped wasn't revealed to be part of the act.

Like I said, not enough explosions. Not enough guts. Too much commentary, too much dark comedy. To say he didn’t understand what was being presented is a major understatement. Go see the flick. It’s a hell of a great time. Maybe some of the characters hit too close to home for him? No idea.

It's a movie for brainlets who think ordinary critiques of American culture are deep

Formulaic, but didn’t follow the formula.

I liked it but have some questions about the ending as well. Primarily, why didn’t anyone fight back or run. When they knew their fate, they just sat there. I didn’t get that.

Watched it last night. Actually really enjoyed it. Thought the ending was a bit flat but other than that, was entertaining and refreshing to see something new.

I went in not knowing anything about this movie, didn't even watch a trailer. When "The Mess" meal happened I was like WTF. Haha

Enjoyed it enough.

They didn't do much with wine pairings, but the audience for a Sommelier and humor isn't great. BUT if you've ever had a friend who is a wine snob, there is a series of three lines in this movie that may make you laugh out loud. (My husband didn't know the wine snob and missed that.)

i probably will do the thin onion slices under the next burger in the order the Chef cooked the burger and I've never had American Cheese on a burger.

I thought the first half hour was very good.
Hoult played his character perfectly, and Anya Taylor-Joy is clearly talented.

I watched her in another movie on HBO called Thoroughbreds. She we very good good but that movie wasn’t anything special, either.

As for the Menu, it tries to be a dark satire about foodies and a bit about a Tech culture but it isn’t all that interesting. It has one note for the final hour, until the cheeseburger scene.

American Psycho is a much better dark satire about the rich. Pig, with Nicolas Cage, is a much better movie about high-end restaurants.

Even though American Cheese is much maligned. Even great Chefs claim its the best cheese for a burger.

Melts easily.

And makes the classic Cheeseburger. Its why every burger joint non-snobbish uses it ..

Has to be real American Cheese. I've seen cheap places use American Cheese (Food) and it ain't even close to the same.

there's a movie that came out last year called "speak no evil" that directly addresses this madness in society.

people will accept their demise sometimes. maybe they deserve it. maybe they're just weak willed and don't want to offend.

i hope i don't. i hope i'd fight like hell.

more than that, i hope i never am put into that situation.
