I never watched 3, I was too upset after the bullshite they packaged as 2. In my mind, there's only 1 Matrix. I refuse to go see 4 or 5 if they get made

I liked a lot of the philosophical ideas introduced in Reloaded but it just wasn't executed very well. Revolutions had no redeeming quality outside of some nice action scenes.
I would begrudgingly watch if they decided to make these sequels.

Is it just me, or did it seem like Matrix 2 and 3 may have had some potential if they were combined into a single film? There is absolutely nothing about these films that says they needed to be separated. I mean aside from finding out that Smith can multiply and is no longer part of the system, really nothing important happens in Reloaded until he meets the Architect. Getting the key maker was just wasting an hour and a half for no reason other than to have the freeway scene and Neo fighting those guys with weapons. Not to mention they frick around in Zion for the first 30 minutes of the film, when it adds little to nothing to the plot, especially the stupid dance/sex scene.
And it gets even better with Revolutions. They frick around the first hour trying to get Neo out of the sort-of Matrix, which leads to nothing. Then they spend another fricking hour with the Battle of Zion, which again leads to nothing, not to mention its all boring as hell. So basically the only important aspects of this film happen in the final 30 minutes.
The first Matrix script was way too long and was heavily streamlined into the great film we know today. They only made two Matrix films for the sake of having a trilogy, which are overrated since few have done them correctly anyway. What should have happened is that 40 minutes into the film have Neo meet the Architect, and then from there have Neo charge the Machine City, finally leading up to his encounter with Smith. Also have the Battle of Zion as more of a side battle, something like The Battle of the Black Gate in Lord of the Rings, since what's really important is our hero (Neo) saving everyone in Zion, not really the battle itself.
Streamlined into a single film it could have been excellent, since the plot itself for the final two films is by no means bad, its just extremely sloppy. The original Matrix, it feels as if each scene is important and adds to the big picture, especially on rewatches. Its one of the greatest movie examples of great buildup, while its sequels are examples of some of the worst.

Matrix should have been one and done. the first one was sooooo good, then they go and make those abominations...

Hope based on the first one will still make me excited for these if they happen, but for the love of God for those of you that haven't seen 3, keep it that way. If you think 2 is bad (and it pretty much is), 3 is just an abortion of a movie.
I have no idea how they could even come up with a decent script after the 3rd one.

). Sure, 2 and 3 tried SO hard to be over your head that they ended up not making much sense, but that doesn't mean they still were cool movies to watch. Some of the action sequences were badass and gorgeous. Basically, 2 and 3 were more popcorn movies, while 1 was a more deep, gritty sci-fi/mystery.
I do agree with OML though, in that the plots of 2 and 3 weren't bad, just poorly executed at times. And had they been combined into a single (albeit pretty long) movie, it could have been pulled off much better and more effectively.

2 and 3 were not good films but they aren't as bad as many make out. Upon subsequent viewings they are better to me than the Star Wars prequels and I am a defender of those.
The second one was worse than the third one IMO. The rave, sex scene was just freaking terrible.
Perhaps Keanu and the W. Bros want to make up for the poorly received films with a pair that are measurable to the first.
I'm being an optimist about this.

The Matrix was a good story plus revolutionary movie making technology. If they think they have that formula again I say go for it. The fact that they already have 2 movies mapped out makes me think it's more about cashing in though.

That said, I liked 2 despite its flaws, but 3 is just the worst bits of 2 without the great action sequences. Reloaded had a lot of interesting ideas that didn't go anywhere, and were resolved to an unsatisfactory degree in Revolutions.

Really? That was it's purpose? I always felt it was way out of place in the movie. Makes a little bit of sense now but they really could have found another way to show our humanity.
