That's like writing a book about a murder mystery and then only writing about how the people close to the victim felt about it and then never addressing who did it, why, etc.
The name of the show is THE LEFTOVERS. The show is about THE LEFTOVERS. It is not about a mystery. A mystery is just the backdrop to what the show wanted to be about, THE LEFTOVERS.

THE LEFTOVERS just talk about an event that the viewer along with THE LEFTOVERS know nothing about. We the viewers and THE LEFTOVERS have been dwelling about this event the entire time. We, along with THE LEFTOVERS are searching for answers and it appears that the writers of THE LEFTOVERS are going to give us a big giant middle finger Sunday night and tell us, along with THE LEFTOVERS, nothing.

Look, I get it. You are predisposed to being pissed at this show. Maybe just don't watch the finale since it's gonna piss you off so badly. Me, I'm gonna continue to enjoy an excellent show.

BUT I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, HOW IT HAPPENED AND WHERE THEY WENT!
Everybody's wonderin' what and where they they all came from
Everybody's worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
When the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain
And so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be
Some say once you're gone you're gone forever
And some say you're gonna come back
Some say you rest in the arms of the Saviour
If in sinful ways you lack
Some say that they're comin' back in a garden
Bunch of carrots and little sweet peas
I think I'll just let the mystery be
Everybody's wonderin' what and where they they all came from
Everybody's worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
When the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain
And so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be
Some say they're goin' to a place called Glory
And I ain't saying it ain't a fact
But I've heard that I'm on the road to purgatory
And I don't like the sound of that
I believe in love and I live my life accordingly
But I choose to let the mystery be
Everybody is wondering what and where they they all came from
Everybody is worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
When the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain
And so it's all the same to me
I think I'll just let the mystery be

Bro
It's been stated numerous times
The writers were crystal clear from the beginning what this show was going to be about
Not their fault you didn't bother to look into it or even try to figure out any of the questions you asked earlier

Sorry....I saw the good ratings and decided to binge it before this season started. I liked what I saw and assumed there would be answers this time, finally.
I know that's too much for a viewer to ask.
I think when I read a book from now on, I'll stop 3/4 through it so I don't get an ending.
And this is the first show in history where googling the showrunners was apparenrly a necessity before viewing episode 1.

It's pretty obvious now that this show was never about the departed themselves. It is/was about the "event" of the departing. The show started literally right after the departing
Precisely. Anytime I talk about this show to someone I describe it as a show about how the people left after the rapture pick up the pieces of their broken lives and move forward. This show was never about the event or what happened to the people.
I didn't care for the last Kevin episode myself. I'm not a fan of the alternate universe especially this close to the end where it is just more questions for the sake of questions. I would have rather them put it off and have kevin go under and fade out rather than have them kill him in Australia the second to last episode to show that he can't die at all right now and that he might be some type of prophet figure.

I think you just described religion and the search for the meaning of life. That's a pretty good way to sum up this show. Good job

quote:I agree with this. However if the creators never intended to give us closure on the departure then I guess I'm shite out of luck. I still think it's dumb tho.
It's still a stupid idea to make a show about a big mystery and then never address the mystery.

Ugh, the whole premise of the show is a cataclysmic event that cannot be explained and how people deal with it. The people in the show and the viewers. It really is a great study of people and how they react to not having explanations. See religion as an example as another poster wisely pointed out.

Well I just want to thank everyone in this thread. I know the show can be infuriating, confusing and maddening at times, but I believe it is one of my favorite shows ever. The Leftovers is one of the few series which has made me delve into further "explanations" and critiques elsewhere to help me understand the sometime wft moments that have occurred. The acting, writing, score etc. are all so superior to most of the dreck on television these days. (Better Call Saul, Fargo and The Americans also stand out in this regard). No matter how it concludes tonight, this drama has been a fantastic viewing experience. Kudos to the people behind the show & to it's relatively (seeming) small legion of fans. It's a shame more people are not viewing.
