Nora went into the machine and died.

She is in the afterlife.

Kevin's immortality is important because he went back there to look for her. He found her, and now they are together, for eternity.

Let's face it.... Her whole Australian existence seemed to be some kind of a dreamworld.

Toma-to. Tomah-to. Kevin had power over death on 4 occasions that we know of. He drank poison and came back to life. He was shot and came back to life. He was drowned twice and came back each time. Immortality in those instances/power over the grave/couldn't die whatever you want to call it. The semantics matter not to me.

He had a supernatural ability that the writers granted him that had repercussions involving much speculation during the series, but in the end, it had very little impact on the outcome of the story and we don't have a clue why they chose to give him that superhuman ability. And if we believe kevin, those powers are believed to be now gone and aren't hinted at why. I just think that is shoddy writing a lot of distraction without much substance. Its disengenuous to hint at so much and then not deliver.

I did enjoy the series but just felt cheated on some points of the ending.

Reza Aslan, consulting producer and religious advisor on the show about the finale:

quote:

“the entire series has been about what’s real and what is not (Kevin’s sleepwalking adventures, Patty, the hotel, Nora’s journey) and the stories we tell in order to make sense of our experiences as humans (which is in many ways the definition of religion).

And like religion, it is the story, far more than the reality, that matters – and it is up to the individual to decide to accept the story or not. What matters is how the story gives us identity and meaning.

When Kevin meets Nora, he tells her a story that she says is not true but which seems to have given Kevin enormous comfort and clarity.

She in turn tells him a story that he accepts as true because he sees it gives her identity. Isn’t that what faith is all about?”

He literally blew up his death world with nukes so that he could never go back. That was cleared up in episode 7.

That's what I thought most of the episode I watched.

But by the end and reading interviews with the show's creator, this doesn't appear to be the case.

Episode 7 was literally entirely about making sure he can't go back and explaining why....he and Patty blew up the world.

All the people disappointed in Kevin not being the messiah I have a question for you : What did you expect or how would you resolve it? By having Kevin going to heaven and speak with Jesus saying, hey bro, we twins?

Did you want him to walk on water and save the world from the flood?

I think it was handled brilliantly. The 3 "afterlife" episodes are some of the best TV in history. You should just accept it at face value IMO.

I don't know if anyone is disappointed in Kevin not being the Messiah it is more the fact that they introduced that entire story and nothing came from it. It really had no purpose or relation to the rest of the story.

I took it as a jab at Christianity. He obviously wasn't be Messiah, yet many desperate people wanted to believe he was and could do all of these things on his behalf. In reality, he was just a dude that couldn't die and could enter and leave the other side at will.

Notice how Matt lost his faith by the end, and they made it painfully obvious how wrong they all were by Kevin not being able to assist them with what they wanted out of him dying (kid's shoes, Evie was loved, song to stop the flood).

it was a giant jab at Christianity, and probably religion in general. Religion truly sucks in those who are desperate.

we also don't know why the departure occurred. Or who "God" really was, or why he couldn't die as well.

Answering all of these things would make the show full on sci-fi. The point in this show was to be faintly sci fi, but to still feel real.

Much like religion, which this show is clearly playing at, some things you just have to accept without the facts.

Brilliant show.

The ending, while very emotionally satisfying, really took a hot steamer on what this show promised to be.

Honestly, as snobby as this sounds, you clearly just didn't "get it".

It's certainly not. If anything it's giving Christianity credit. Kevin was a "messiah-like" person who was also flawed. Books were written about him and he gave people (albeit misguided) hope that helped them through difficult times and get to places they previously may have not. You can definitely say a lot of things about Christianity but more or less the story of Jesus gives people hope and teaches an overall good lesson. (Do unto others). If you think about it,, after all is said and done, The Story of Kevin (the book of kevin and nora) could inspire others the same way.

If anything it shows how fast things can get blown out of proportion and entire beliefs can be hinged on them, for better or worse.

This part for sure I agree with. Brilliant show.

I finished the series this morning. Very well done, excellent television. However, I was disappointed in how they ended it. Wish we could have followed Nora's story line when she went to the alternate universe. Also wish there would have been a solid explanation as to why everyone disappeared, but I understand that it probably would have been a let down no matter what it was.
