Yeah this has been puzzling me. At first I thought it was mostly just Bella Ramsey’s demeanor but it’s now clear that they are intentionally making her look dumb (see: the map scene). I can think of a couple of reasons they might want to make Dina look like the smarter of the two but let’s be honest.. they probably didn’t need to try very hard.
The route they’ve taken is kind of like throwing the baby out with the bath water, because now it’s just not believable that Ellie can really accomplish anything without dumb luck and incompetent adversaries.

They have to be planning for at least 2 More seasons as I see it
S3 will be the perspective shift and focus on Abby's part and S4 will be back to Ellie.
I really can't wait to see how they shoot Lumen Field during Abby's story.

They did stretch it out for a 3rd season. I think it’s already been renewed. Big mistake IMO.
ETA: To clarify, I mean big mistake stretching it out with a 7-episode season 2. Not renewing it.

Devers is such a better actress that when it's all said and done, I can see general audiences preffering Abby over Ellie. The opposite of what happened with gamers.

I’m not going to go quite this hard on it, but I did notice last night the show hit near or on the 30 minute mark before a male character had a line. For a survival/fighting for our lives sort of show I found it very noticeable and strange. The core of Ellie and Dina in the show is just not working for me.

I think they are for sure only doing three. I think they writers confirmed that.
Episodes are shorter this season too. Looks like last nights episode was only 45 minutes and with credits and the after show of the writers discussing how amazing they are for 10 minutes that doesn't make for a very long episode of actual TV time.

I don't know if I have ever seen a show have such high highs and such low lows all within single episodes. Obviously GOT is the standard of a show with high highs and low lows but it was mostly highs for 6 seasons and then mostly lows for the final 2 seasons. This show has great scenes surrounded by shite within the same hour of television.

Anyone else notice that the two love scenes in the two seasons have been gay dudes and lesbians?

Now? Ramsey playing this older version of Ellie feels like a problem. Again, this is not Ramsey’s fault, but they are not only working with a script that doesn’t fit Ellie very well, but there is almost no change in Ramsey’s appearance from season to season when Ellie growing up, getting taller and more ready for combat was a big part of why she becomes so terrifying in the game.

I agree that they are giving Dina more of a role than she had which isn't bad it's just Ellie seems more of tagging along than Dina does at this point. Hopefully the ending scene was her finally breaking because the show needs Ellie going psycho mode badly. And yes the story is split into two seasons so this won't be end of the story at the end of the season

I never played the game, and I know it's a show, but the smartest decision would be for Ellie and Dina to forget Abby and go home.

What a shitty show that would be. Maybe they could explore when the insurance rates hike up and their mortgage becomes a burden...

I mean, we just saw one of WLF women die last night due to running into a quarantined area of the hospital with the spores.
Isaac runs the WLF and it looks like his second is male (the actor from The Gilded Age we saw outside the door as he tortured the religious sect guy).
We saw last night that the seraphites are run by a man, who loves some good medieval torture apparently. The deity is female but it's definitely men running the current org that we've seen so far.
Tommy runs Jackson with the committee that consists of men and women.

I think that article mostly has the issues pegged, except for how they go out of their way to say that none of it is Bella Ramsey’s fault. The writing hasn’t done her any favors, but it’s a little silly (IMO) to act like she hasn’t contributed to the issues at all.

It seems like her face not matching is less of a problem than being fugly with a forehead and personality to match.
She could play a younger Karl Childers in a switch blade prequel.
