I’ll be honest, after their first kiss and then post-shower scene I was like damn they had to go there. But then as the episode progressed, I was pretty captivated by their story. Just a brilliant acting performance by both men. If you were too caught up in the fact they were gay to enjoy the episode for what it was then I feel sorry for you.
Can’t have a zombie show where every episode they just run into zombies, defeat zombies, continue their journey, repeat again next episode. I think they’ve mixed in flashbacks with present day perfectly thus far.

Agreed. When they first got in bed it was getting to be a little too much but as it went on they brought it together very well. Great performances by both of them. To stretch this into a series you need filler and some character depth.
The first game easily could of been a 2 and a half hour movie but i think this is way better
The letter at the end really drove it home. Great episode.

They expanded on a backstory of a character in the game that people were intrigued about. Maybe propagandish but it was stellar acting and well directed. If you do something well, I'll watch. He was a character that happened to be gay. Not a character put there because he was gay.

Exactly how I felt. Episode was excellent. This thread (and the other one) are pretty cringe.

Also I didn’t realize that was Armand from White Lotus

I typically loathe filler episodes.
I typically get bothered by the pushing of an unnecessary agenda.
But that was a very well done episode. Truly.

Just finished the episode. Definitely not what I thought the episode was going to be about
Definitely a filler episode that didnt advance the plot in any way that an 80 minute episode should. Not a fan of gay sex but it's pretty easy to fast forward through that. Well acted episode fore sure. The White Lotus guy is just a great actor. Glad they are one and done characters though.
Worst part of the episode was Bill standing in the dead center of the street taking fire from numerous people. Made no sense for a survivalist of his level to do that.

I don’t care about having gay characters. But damn, that felt like it was just a filler episode. It barely advanced the show. Why did they waste one of the 80 minute shows on that fluff.
This right here. What the frick was the point? The show runners literally said they deviated from the game here, I guess just to tell a meaningless gay love story that has nothing to do with nothing.
I was actually excited about the Bill character just from seeing how excited people who played the game were. Then they did that. Again, they literally changed the story and deviated from the game just to tell a gay love story.
No doubt critics will love this meaningless, boring episode.

The agenda pushing didn’t exist just people triggered by gays, overall this was an expansion on a character that was a small part of the game that did a bit of world building as well as character building. The note Bill left Joel will likely have an impact of the development of Joel’s character also Bill is now an example of the man Joel could be, one that opens up to others such as Ellie rather than one that closes himself off to the world like we’ve seen so far

if you didn’t get or like it that’s fine.
Didn’t get what? What was there to get? The show runners admitted to changing the story and deviating from the game just to have this boring love story that added nothing to the show. The best parts of the episode were Ellie and Joel.
I thought Bill was supposed to be some amazing entertaining character. Instead we got two old guys that did nothing then killed themselves.

In the game, Joel and Ellie run into Bill while looking for a working car. Bill reluctantly helps since he owes Joel a favor. Bill and Ellie have some solid banter. It's not really a huge part of the game or anything.
All this did was allow gamers to see the back story of Bill and Frank's relationship. Looking forward to the action picking up next week.

I know we're not supposed to discuss the game in this thread (though many are), but that's not true.

My main gripe with the episode was Frank the “survivalist” coming out of cover into the middle of the street to engage multiple hostiles.
quote:
How many years have they been getting that town ready to defend? He should’ve had fortified sniper nests set up in two dozen different places. And instead, he stands in the middle of a damned (lighted) street with a deer rifle.
This is by far the biggest issue with the episode
*ETA: if you're going to be in the street with a rifle, don't use a fricking bolt action

Spending an hour on a gay relationship for no other reason than normalizing gay relationships is gay propaganda.
You think that was the ONLY reason?
I imagine the potential loving-romantic relationships options the game presents may be limited, no?

Yeah, if that’s what you got from that then I feel kind of sorry for you. And any depth you lack.
People are acting like this was a gay pride parade or a tranny reading books to kids without underwear or some extreme, flamboyant example of homosexuality.

That's a melt, but not as championship as the spoiler thread. May not even make the top 5 melts of the spoiler thread.

I'm interested to read the thread, but wanted to get my thoughts in before I did.
I saw the gayness coming, and could've done without it for the most part, but that's not what bothered me most about the episode. What bothered me the most was that it just felt like a gigantic waste of time for the most part. They could've gotten the exact same thing accomplished in half the time and still advanced the story to "Joel gets a truck and some supplies." It felt even more of a waste when we find out that neither Bill nor Frank survived, so it was quite literally a one-off episode. I think it would've resonated more with me had we gotten to know these characters a little more and grown attached to them. Like if this would've been a season 2 or 3 episode after getting to know Bill/Frank, I may have loved it. But it being the third episode of the series, it fell flat with me.
That being said, it was a good episode of TV. I just wish they wouldn't have wasted so much time with characters that I wasn't attached to in any way (and that we aren't gonna continue forward with).
It's hard to believe they could've lasted that long with that baller setup and not have many issues with outsiders. 20 years is a long arse time.
