I never played the game, but this show feels like it is sticking pretty true to the game, and I mean that in a good way. The episode last night very much had that early game missions to get you acquainted with game play feel.

Do y’all realize how many islands are in Indonesia?
17,508. And surrounded my many other countries islands. It’s very easy to do island hopping there

Haven't read the thread yet, but my initial reaction to last night's episode is that it felt almost like a "boring" episode. So it even the boring episodes of this show are that good, this show is gonna be pretty awesome. This is a good description of it from above:

Not much happened obviously outside of losing Tess and learning about the connectivity of the fungus (which was cool). I hate losing Tess this early though...I really like Anna Torv. But it's really cool how shooting one zombie over here can awaken a horde over there if they are connected. It was a little strange that it seemed like the fungus wasn't connected to the zombie until after it was shot, so it still waking the horde up was a little odd. But still cool nonetheless that the fungus is its own living, and seemingly semi-intelligent, organism.

Can't wait for next week.

I took it as once when the zombie hit the ground and not moving, the fungus attached itself to him. Hard to do that if a zombie is moving.

So it seems we’ve either got some gamers in here or folks who paid more attention than I did lol so I’ve got some question about what I believe y’all are calling the “clickers”?

Are these a certain type of infected / zombies, or in this world, is this how all zombies act? Trying to get a feel for whether it is established / accepted that all zombies in this world are blind and can only hear. This doesn’t seem like it was the case early on when people first turned, but maybe you only become this after you’ve been a zombie for long enough? And so these things are sorta linked or can talk to each other through the vines or whatever.

That Tess ending was narly and genuinely gut-wrenching, even if it was obvious from the moment she came back that she’d been bit. When that zombie dude slowly gave her the kiss of death I was shocked at how much it turned my stomach, both sad for her but also a horrible way to go.

This show is so awesome.

And it's a real fungus: National Geographic article

That only effects insects, for now...

Very much so in most regards. They have cut out quite a few major action sequences even just so far and changed the order of some things. There are some throw-away lines/scene that happen later. They’ve played down some elements and played up some. You can tell they’re streamlining it generally very well though I see some odd choices. Will leave it at that though.

It seems to me that after you've been infected for a certain amount of time the fungus grows through you body and starts growing out of your head which eventually causes the blindness.

The buildings WILL fall if got by tons of bombs. They say in episode that every city was bombed to slow the spread. It only really worked in a few places like Boston.

This would happen in real life if it ever happened

I will say we’ve already seen there’s a process, right. We’ve seen crazy people running around and we’ve seen clickers with mushroom heads who can’t see and act very weird. They have the same infection, just are in different stages. The people who’ve just turned still have all their organs and can see, hence why we’ve seen they’re easier to kill. It’s only after being infected a long time and the fungus has them at a clicker stage

In real life. If there are ever zombies I have a plan.

I'm rounding up every prepper I know and we are going to Pitcairin Island. We will easily overwhelm and take out the locals. As they are mostly felons no one will care and England won't intercede. We will ride the whole thing out there.

(No not really, just rehashing the best OT thread ever. The zombie survival guide)

from what i understand they are a hive mind linked by the vines that go undergrounds but seem to be isolated to a specific area not every single infected in the entire world.

Anybody else just creeped the frick out with these monsters? Regular gore does not bother me in the least but this shite coming out of their mouths and eyes is just doing a mind frick on me. Almost makes me nauseous.

Umm yea. I don't do normal gore either but the stuff coming out of their mouth is really weird. I like wanted to throw up when he walked up to her and the fungus went in her mouth

Kind of surprised she didn't put up some resistance, she just opened her mouth right up

Right, that's exactly my point.

The zombie was crawling toward them, then Joel shot it, then it dies and the fungus attaches itself to the zombie and the horde awakens.

Entertaining episode. I really liked the opening scene. They're nailing these prologues

I mean I doubt an Indonesian scientist would think just letting everyone in Indonesia die would be a good thing. they wanted to bomb the city to save the rest of the country in theory

quote:

I think it was pretty strongly implied by the scientist's reaction that they were past the point of quarantine. When they said there were 14 other people missing, she knew it was too late to stop it with a quarantine.

And I assume she included herself in that when she asked to be brought home so she could be with her family. I assumed she lived in the city as well and knew she would be in that number when it was bombed.

That aspect as not in the game. As they mentioned, in the game, the fungus spread mainly through spores and the show runners thought that was silly. So they did further research on fungus and this is what they came up with.

I don’t fully buy it as making overwhelming amounts of sense but I think the fungus can be connected to any area of dirt and the fungus was already there and it sensed the dead zombie and that’s why it sensed something was wrong.

I bet that army guy she told grabbed his wife and kids and skipped out with a quickness.
