Remember the Wierwood door at the tunnels under the Nightfort that could only be opened by a brother of the NW? CH needed Sam to open it so Coldhands isn't Benjen. Not even a crow.

Its possible that he is no longer a crow because he died. Could be another clue that Jon dies, gets resurrected, and is relieved of his vows to the night's watch.

Coldhands couldn't open it because he is a wight and sis the very epitome of the walls cause for being. He is a former member of the nights watch he's just not benjen

That makes sense. In that case, he's probably a trusted brother Bloodraven brought with him North of the Wall after leaving the NW himself.

Btw do we know why Bloodraven was in the watch to begin with? It hadn't been said has it?

Nope. As of The Mystery Knight, Brynden Rivers was still Hand Of The King. Next time he's mentioned in the series, he's Root of The Tree.

Wait I misread. Yeah it's somewhere why he took the black. I thought you meant why he left TNW.

Ive never seen why he took the black. I know he was part of aemon's honor guard but he was a prisoner of eggs at the time and I've never seen why....

Yep. Honor Guard to escort Maester Aemon to the Wall was the only explanation given:

quote:

As "Lord Bloodraven," Brynden was rumored to be a sinister sorcerer, effectively ruling the kingdom “with spies and spells." The events of The Sworn Sword take place during his reign as Hand, though he does not personally take part in the story. Maekar I imprisoned him in the Red Keep's black cells until around 233AL, the year King Aegon V ascended to the throne, when he was sent to the Wall as part of the "honor guard" of prisoners that accompanied Aegon's brother Maester Aemon. Eventually he rose to Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. The song A Thousand Eyes, and One was written about him.

Don't know what the falling out w Maekar was all about either, unless his use of magic scared people.

That is probably the one piece of info I'm most intrigued about. I really really do not trust Bloodraven and I want to know what he did to earn a place on the wall

The sword Dark Sister, (carried by Aegon's sister Visenya and later by Prince Aemon the Dragonknight), is last mentioned as being carried by Bloodraven. Surely he wasn't allowed to carry it to the Wall so did he hide it in the Red Keep before he was arrested? I suspect its hidden in those tapestries Littlefinger asked Cersei to send to the Vale but thats strictly speculation based on little to nothing. (But there's something important in those tapestries.)

perhaps they're dragon tapestries so LF can declare for Aegon? if dany drags her feet i can see Jon Con pushing Aegon to marry Sansa to gain the support of the north & Vale.

Maekar hated Bloodraven for being chosen as Hand of the King by Aerys I. Maekar believed he was the obvious choice and believed Bloodraven used sorcery to be chosen and to control Aerys.

I wonder if Dark Sister is still with BR. I would think someone would notice a Valaryan steel greatsword was wrapped up in a tapestry. I think there are documents hidden in the taps LF sent for. Or something easily concealed in cloth. Unless this is a sign LF intends to be viewed as a Targ loyalist should circumstances call for it - but this seems a bit drol for LF's character.
Dark Sister has a role to play for sure - Jon may inherit it himself and return Claw to Jorah.

I can't wait to see if certain characters ever do really meet. With GRRM you never know.

Speaking of Dark Sister...when LF made his deal with the Nobles of the Vale (Feast or Dragons, don't remember) wasn't there talk of the sword or was it another sword... Anyone know what I'm talking about? It was a hostile toned discussion at the Eyrie.

Lyn Corbay took out his sword but that's all I remember.

Ready? Set? ...Geaux!

Crackpot Theory of the Moment (CTotM)

Has Jon Snow been involved in more than one baby swap plot? He orchestrates a baby swap involving Gilly's babe and Mance Rayder's babe, in order to protect the Kings baby from being slain by a Beratheon (in this case, Stannis).

Could Jon Snow have been part of a baby swap plot orchestrated by Eddard Stack, at the request of his dying sister, Lyanna? Who could this other baby be? None other than the Edric Dayne, Lord of Starfall and squire to Lord Beric Dondarrion. Edric is also decribed as the "milk brother" of Jon Snow.

And who provided the milk for these two "brother's"? None other than Willa, who is supposedly Jon's mother according to Ned Stark, as told to a Baratheon (in this case, Robert).

Additionally, Edric is also decribed as having Targaryen features, espcially his purple eyes. While Jon looks more like a Stark. And George R. R. Martin loves for history to repeat itself.

Thus

R + L =\= J

Instead

R + L = E

S + W = J (where S = Stark)

But which Stark? Mostly likely Ned. But if it were Benjen, this might explain why he ended up at the Wall.

Damn!

Yea, I could see how that is possible, but I'm gonna stick with the R + L = JS theory. Makes more sense to me.

As much as GRRM likes to screw with us, even that seems like much.

Where do you guys see the Stark daughters ending up?

I had completely forgot about it, but is Arya's sword still buried by the front door of the temple?
