Its probably the worst Disney movie released in theaters, however the marketing campaign is second to none.

Story makes no sense, the characters are awful, the songs aren't that good, however the singers are great.

If you really want a kick to the nuts, watch Frozen 2. That story makes no fricking sense and changes the mythology built up in the first one.

This can only be a troll post. I get someone not being super into the topic, but it's an incredibly well written and well made show

It does, and they have always refused to acknowledge that. Dropping it on purpose literally makes no sense based on the setup of the entire movie.

And Dottie's journey/character development is that she was finally bested by her little sister, and she isn't mad about it...she's proud of her, like you said. Her journey is that she doesn't have to be the best anymore, and she is okay letting someone else have that glory, even if it's her little sister, whom she has always thrived on being better than.

Choosing the ""on purpose" side is choosing to ignore the entire movie literally right up until they collide. Because even when Kit rounded third, Dottie had the look of a little bit of fear in her eyes for the first time in her life (when competing with Kit). Even the setup during the play leads to her not dropping it on purpose.

I know it's a silly kids movie, but a lot of this reminds me of Little Giants. Sure Al Bundy beats Rick Moranis 99 times out of 100, but that always leaves 1 time

It’s like a bad slasher movie where every character makes stupid decisions and the antagonist gimp is more mystical unstoppable slasher than an assassin with his scary air tank pig killing bolt thing.

A league of their own ending always gets people fired up. Love it.

No country for old men was great to me.

Anyone who gripes about the final scenes of The Blair Witch Project and complains that the witch was never shown on-screen is a lazy viewer who lacks imagination.

oana is best Disney animated film in probably the last 30 years. great story, great characters, great songs, jokes for the parents, etc it hits all the marks.

Man, I watched Moana last weekend, and was pretty disappointed in it. It was good, of course. But I've heard time and time again about how incredible it was for years now, and it was just "good" for me. So maybe it's on me for having too high of expectations. Most of the songs were meh for me as well. I don't get the fascination of it.

It's a fricking gorgeous movie though.

Die Hard is a Christmas movie is boomer humor. They can't let shite go, see cringy jokes about dihydrogen monoxide and Brad's wife.

Plus, it’s not like writers/creators have never retroactively made up bullshite about their story.

She retroactively went back and said it was up to the viewer, the drop on purpose was her original view on the topic.

She dropped it on purpose.

On purpose, she dropped it.

Dottie dropping the ball was not an accident.

Christmas is very much a theme of the movie, not just the setting

quote:

And honestly I've never seen a really convincing argument as to why it shouldn't be. Because most of the reasons I've seen could be applied to almost every Christmas movie ever made which would make them not Christmas movies either.

Since it's obviously more of a "not Christmas movie" than it is one, the onus should be on you to prove WHY it is, other than just "it just is". Let's look at some obvious Christmas movies.

Christmas Story- Christmas is in the title. The lead character won't stop talking about what he wants for christmas, it's one of the biggest runnign points of the film. I'ts obviously set at christmas time. We see a typical christmas morning gathering with a family opening presents, leading up to the big climax of the lead getting his present and shooting his eye out. MAIN QUESTION- If this movie had every refernece to christmas removed and took place in July instead, would it exist? Answer- NO. It would cease to exist.

It's a wonderful life. Based on a Christmas Carol. Again set around christmas time. Somewhat of a spiritual aspect involved with the guaradian angel. Lead comes to realize the importance of love, family, and friends. A bell on the christmas tree leads to one of the film's more memorable quotes. The tone of hte show is about appreciation and love which go hand in hand with christmas spirit. If this movie had every reference removed and took place in July, would it still exist? Yeah, it'd exist, but would have a completely different tone and would no longer be a christmas movie. It'd just be a normal ol' movie almost like bruce almighty

Christmas vacation- Christmas in title agian. Opens with searching for chritmas tree. Lots of hijinks involved with decorating the house. One of the high points at the end of the film is a profanity laced tired that the lead character was pissed at his boss for not getting his expected christmas bonus. House is full of lots of family there for christmas time. Remove referneces ot christmas and place in July- does movie exist? No, does not exist. Christmas is too integral to the plot of the movie.

So that brings us to die hard.

-It's set at Christmas! - Yeah, it's set around christmas. That doesn't mean eveyr movie in late November is a thanksgiving movie. Or every movie in late october is a halloween movie. It just happens to be set at that time of the year, doens't mean it's a "christmas movie"
-They're at a christmas party! -Is the reason for the party relevant, or is the important part that they're at a big tall office building party? Clearly the latter. It could be a new years even party and the plot of the movie is the exact same.
-He writes ho ho ho on that bad guy! -Merely a brief second of comedy to give the viewer a grin. Splice out that 5 seocnds of the film and the movie doesn't lose anything.

Take away every reference to Christmas and set the film in July...does it still exist? I think you know the answer.

Christmas is absolutely NOT a central theme of Die Hard. Am i taking crazy pills?

The movie Elf for instance, is about a Christmas elf getting ready for Christmas, Santa, etc.

Die Hard is about a good guy killing bad guys in a hotel. There are Christmas trees, hats, and music present, but that is all. Setting, not a theme.

that's my point. The basic outline of die hard is "hostages stuck in building, good guy badass is in side and good guy cop is outside working together, good guy inside takes out bad guys and saves the day"

That has nothign to do with christmas. Any universally recognized "christmas movie" would have something to do with christmas in its basic outline.

I can get how if it was built up you could be underwhelmed, but I've got two young kids and Disney+ and have been watching the entire Disney Catalogue on repeat recently, and moana pretty much beats out of everything in the last 30 years.

Run through the list of last 30 years, I put Moana on top.

I'd probably rank the top 10 like this:

Moana
Lion King
Aladdin
Big Hero 6
Wreck it ralph
Zootopia
Tangled
Mulan
Princess and Frog
Bolt

Jeez, I'm not even a disney guy, but I now realize with kids how much time I spend watching this stuff, way too much.

Such a guy comment. Father of the Bride, Somethings Gotta Give, and First Wives Club are such fun movies. Women love them! Of course, it all comes down to The Godfather for you.

You're just not her demographic!

To me it's that she symbolically let it go. She let the ball go as she also let her sport go, knowing it was a brief and not very meaningful moment in her life when you compare it to the rest of her life and her family.
