Here's another hill I defend to the death:

Starship Troopers is criminally underrated, is one of the best films of the 1990s, and is legitimately one of the most brilliant satirical movies ever made.

Who underrates it? I've always thought people liked it mostly.

They exist, but not here. It seems Starship Troopers is pretty widely regarded on the Tigerdroppings M/TV board as one of the best movies ever made.

Here's mine, and I don't think anyone will agree with me.

The president's speech in Independence Day is corny as hell and terrible.

I see people all the time talk about how it's so great and gets them all fired up, too me it's total cringe.

Oh, just a guy. I get it now. But just because you think these things, does not make a gazillion little princesses out there wrong!!!

That's just what this thread needs...a woman saying "you're just a guy, that's such a guy thing!!" every other post.

Yay.

Meh...It's not like men and women, boys and girls don't often like different things, regardless of what the current MSM says. And it doesn't make the other wrong. Just different.

Geez.

First of all, your posts are horrendous and you look like a dumbass.

Second, the dude you originally blew up at has almost 700 posts after being registered less than a month and is obviously an alter. Just ignore him.

I really don't care if you think my posts are horrendous. I'm gonna ignore that dumbass remark for now. That, I can ignore.

The troll is annoying and hard to ignore.

The entire movie revolves around Ralphie's gift on Christmas morning. What are you talking about?

whoever I was replying to said that two major scenes revolved around the cold weather since it was late December.

quote:

Two of the more memorable scnes in the film are randy dressed up so much (because it's late december) and flik and the pole (becuase it's late december).

I am saying for those two particular scenes it could take place anytime during winter.

2005's War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise is a great movie and much better than the original from 1953.

I've gotten in many an e-fight on this board about Starship Troopers. That is definitely not a feeling that is shared by all.

Although maybe moreso on this board than most other places.

Everybody Loves Raymond is very much underrated. Brilliant comedy ensemble in that show.

Here's my view, for what it's worth:

John Carter
and
The Man From Uncle

would both be huge, beloved franchises right now, if the studios only would have shown the courage to follow up.

JC gets credit for being one of the biggest box office bombs in history, but I haven't met a person yet who, after finally watching on Blu-ray or stream, didn't come away impressed with it, and thinking it was a legit good and fun movie.
The Barsoom concept gives us a blend of Conan fantasy, with old-school Flash Gordon sci-fi. The movie laid the groundworks, the sequels could have been big, beautiful and exotic action, outside of the current mainstream comic book superhero movies. You still had Mark Strong as the big bad, lining up various contenders to take on JC (without ever having to face him directly again). And by being "Barsoom" instead of actual Mars as we know it, you can plug in any setting you like.

As for Man From Uncle, that too completely set the table for great sequels. Hammer, Cavill and Vikander have incredible chemistry together, and there's an absolute TON of potential groovy-cool stories they could have followed with. It was just the right mix of style, like the old Bond flicks; instead of trying to be serious, or going overboard like Austin Powers.

Animal House is not funny.

The Great Outdoors is not funny.

Black Panther was merely ok.

I don't think its underrated but everything else you said is true.

Young and old like it alike...often for different reasons.

My Dad thought the movie was hilarious along the same lines of his youthful satire...Dr. Strangelove.

It aired 9 seasons and was a Top 10 show for 6.

It was nominated for 69 Emmys.

Critics have called it a Top 50 show all-time.
