First think that pops up when you search Dev Patel is that he is an English actor who has won plenty of English acting awards. He was also born in the UK.
So an accomplished British actor is playing the key role in a movie based upon British folklore. Meh. It’s gonna be cool

Oh so shoulda been thor instead of him I guess
Blond hair blue eyed beast lol I'm just a fan Dev that's just messing around. Honestly doesn't bother me as long as the acting is on point.

Dev Patel is a fine actor.
Uh I did not even notice him as South Asian until you mentioned it. Hell I hate the use of random racial groups when it breaks the reality of history. This one though seems more people will only notice if looking for it.

Looks cool. Casting of Patel does not vex me. Looking forward to it.

quote:No he doesn't. He has green armor. It's British folklore. They're all white.
The story has a knight with green skin.
quote:Neither did Shaft. Is Tobey McGuire gonna play him next?
didn’t exist
quote:No, that's what the filmmakers are doing. It's all they're good at these days.
But by all means, focus on the race of the very good actor playing the lead character.

I don’t see these complaints whenever they cast Jesus as a pasty white guy

The Green Knight was not white in the original story. He was green and in this movie he appears to be a tree person.

Exactly right. I look forward to the upcoming Black Panther movie played by an Indian.

I mean, I’m sure there probably is an Indian Black Panther out there given how prolific Dollywood is

I'm not all riled up about it, but I'm pretty sure the Anglo Saxons and Britons who created the mythology crafted the character as an Anglo Saxon or Briton, not Indian
*ETA: possibly Welsh
Are you sure? They had Sir Morien on the Round Table who was a moor and described as black. There were a few other non whites on the Round Table who an Indian actor could portray but I don't know if Sir Gawain was one.

First movie in a while that actually piqued my interest, maybe worth finding it streaming

If he just so happened to be Indian, it wouldn't matter, but there's nothing random about him being the choice. British media have been doing this to historical/folklore stuff for a while. You'd think the bombing of black Ann Boleyn would have taught them something, but it's not about results. It's about propaganda.
