Despite my interest in the medieval period, I’ve never read the original story so I’m trying to avoid any kind of preconceived notions.

For Christ sake, will they stop it with diversity casting? Is there no end, to this?

I read and wrote about the Green Knight at university. It’s interesting and fairly complicated storytelling.

This movie is going to be suuuuper slow and total art house. Going to not be what most people think it is.

Yeah it's probably going to be a glorified play, but the Green Knight mythology is still quite interesting.

Are you Britt-ish?

I took a medieval lit class in college and studied the Grail Cycle and read some version of the Green Knight (a long time ago).

Not sure if anyone has played the Green Knight on screen since Sean Connery, so I could be interested in this.

I quite agree, watched the trailer and only diversity thing is maybe the lead actor being Indian. But hell chap if so it does not stand out.

Dev Patel is a fine actor.

Casting him as a medieval English knight, specifically Gawain, is stupid.

It's politics. It is more, purposeful, subversion.

Idc what the actor is as long as he does a good job.

Also very excited for this, hopefully more medieval era movies and shows come out. Can’t get enough of that stuff.

Sir Gawain didn’t exist. Camelot (a city of silver and gold) didn’t exist. King Arthur didn’t exist. The story has a knight with green skin.

But by all means, focus on the race of the very good actor playing the lead character.

I'm not all riled up about it, but I'm pretty sure the Anglo Saxons and Britons who created the mythology crafted the character as an Anglo Saxon or Briton, not Indian

*ETA: possibly Welsh

This.

Dev Patel is a great actor and I look forward to this for him.

That being said, this is fine from a diversity standpoint. There are plenty of times where it’s not.

Michael B Jordan playing John Clark was whatever. He’s a fine actor in a crappy movie. Bridgerton was obviously pandering, but they didn’t make a race thing out of it.

I can assure you that Coates’ plan for a Black Superman will be beating you over the head.

I’m fine with a black Captain America. Im not fine being told I’m not fine with a black Captain America.
