The ending of the movie Twister

Spoilers, I guess, but I'm sure just about everyone on this board has seen the film by now as it's almost 24 years old.
Anyways...the end of the movie was always fantastical and Hollywood to me as I always thought there is no way a) a tornado looks like that on the inside and b) no one could possibly survive something like that to tell us what it looks like on the inside.
Turns out I was wrong. The ending scene of Twister where Bill and Jo are inside the tornado is based on two accounts from people who have been in the "eye" of a violent tornado and lived to tell the tale. I did not know this until today. One account is from 1928 and the other is from 1951:

You can clearly see the above scene is based heavily on the accounts that are quoted above.

quote:
Once inside the swirling cloud, Keller said that everything was "as still as death." He reported smelling a strong gassy smell and had trouble breathing. When he looked up, he saw the circular opening directly overhead, and estimated it to be roughly 50 to 100 feet in diameter and about a half a mile high. The rotating cloud walls were made clearly visible by constant bursts of lightning that "zigzagged from side to side." He also noticed a lot of smaller tornadoes forming and breaking free, making a loud hissing noise. The tornado then passed, skipping over his house and smashing the home of his neighbor.
The second account from Roy Hall does nothing to disprove Keller's story. Hall was a soybean farmer in McKinnet, Texas. One spring afternoon in 1951, Hall and his family were outside when a nasty storm approached. He sent his wife and kids inside to hide under a bed but stayed to watch the coming storm. He claims to have seen green sheets of rain just before the tornado formed. After baseball-sized hail started coming down, he went inside. He then heard a loud rumbling followed by complete silence. The walls began to shake, and to his surprise, his roof was ripped away and thrown into the woods nearby. At this point, he looked up to find the tornado directly overhead. He described the inside as a smooth wall of clouds, with smaller twisters swirling around the inside before breaking free. Once again, non-stop lightning created a bluish light, enabling him to see everything clearly. And then, just like that, the tornado passed and the sky turned sunny. The same storm killed 100 Texans, but Hall and his family survived.

RIP Bill Paxton
Seems like every single project he was involved was enjoyable as hell.

This movie is one of my all time favorites. Turned me into a weather nerd at a very young age.

Never understood why they had to hate on Jonas so much. Supposedly it's all for the good of mankind..dude went out and single handedly got big money to invest in this research. Bill had walked away from it so that shows you his commitment to the overall morale.

Twister: Lunch @ Aunt Meg's
People always reminisce about this scene, made steak and eggs look so satisfying. Would that food memory feel as good if PSH and Paxton weren't having such a good time

I've been inside of a dust devil. Carrying a piece of plywood in Afghanistan and thought someone had ran into the back of me. Anyway, couldn't see shite for all the sand it kicked up. Imagine a tornado would we tougher to see in.

Oh the old multiple-vortex tornado that Jim Cantore likes to talk about. We've all seen them on TV by this time. Think the El Reno, OK tornado of 2013. I was living outside OK City at the time. It was 2.3 miles wide and determined as the most powerful tornado observed at the time. It had vortices that looked like real tornados. But I'm not sure anyone looked up to the blue sky inside of it.

It is one of my favorite movies. Last September McNeese played Oklahoma State in Stillwater for football , so me and my wife made a weekend trip. Wikita is about an hour North of Stillwater. A lady runs the Twister movie Museum , and it was worth the trip. A lot of movie set items, one of the Dorthy’s, pictures, souvenirs, and home videos of them filming scenes around Wikita. Very cool information about them choosing Wikita and how the town reacted to Hollywood coming to small town Wikita USA. Was definitely worth the trip. The lady said Warner Bros told her that people would visit Wikita for a year or so , but that would be it. Over 20 years later people visit daily from around the world.

I know I’m in the minority on this one, but I felt like this could have been a great movie that fell short. I wish they’d remake it.

1996 was lit with summer blockbusters.
Twister
Independence Day
The Rock
Mission Impossible
No sequels and all pretty much different.
Only Mission Impossible came from previous IP

You not remember the movie clearly? It was made clear Jonas stole their “Dorothy” tech.

I remember building houses out of K'Nex before having a tornado plow through them.
Did my science fair project on tornadoes as well complete with this beauty:

That they were all working on. So..the glory is what was important to Bill and Jo? Wasnt saving people? After watching her dad get killed she immediately began thinking of ways to get recognition..
If Jonas was able to do that, then so what..bill oddly knew his tornadoes, I'll give him that. And had he not been an arse about it, Jonas and Eddie would still be alive.
If I were jonas, and we had this great product..no money and our team leaders cant get along and the whole project is in danger..and one walks away or hints and eventually does..yeah, I'd go off and do that too. If I had been on the team, I'd have followed him. He was looking at the bigger picture while Jo and Bill publicly squabbled..which they continued to do. Costing bill another relationship..publicly. Bill was untrustworthy and had anger issues, which is why jonas didnt want to listen to him. Was a similar design btw, not 100% the same. His seemed more expensive.
