My parents met because of his death.
Both parents worked at a large department store at a mall and upon hearing the news my Dad went to lower the flag that was on the roof of the mall to half staff.
He got called into the general managers office and was fired, but on the way out asked my Mom (the managers assistant) if she wanted to go to a party.

Most insufferably overrated actor of all time.

Lowering the flag for an actor?

It was a joke. He described himself as a stoner-clown at that age.

I think it was more of a final straw kind of thing.

Oh okay. I thought he was one of those people.

Two things:
1. Wayne was not a bigot. He was a product of his time (You could claim anyone pre-2000 was a bigot, due to societal norms). All three of his wives were Hispanic. He hired Woody Strode, when he was "blacklisted" due to his participation in the civil rights movement. Duke was a Huge Conservative Republican but was not a racist.
2. The day the Duke died, began the pussification of America.

He never should have changed his name.

That was also acceptable too. Half of us wouldn't be here if our dad's, granddad's, great granddads hadn't made a move on the mom's, grandmom's and great grandmom's.

The Duke's grandson, Brendan Wayne, is the body double for Din Djarin in the Mandalorian. It's why Mando has such a badass walk. He purposely walks like John Wayne.
