I thi k the guardians are relatively fine, but just hate Hal Jordan. He's the first human lantern and apparently human psychology is different from anywhere else in the universe and they just don't understand it and this can't understand Hal.
John Stewart is a machine compared to Hal. Much more relatable, and controllable to them.

Hal is the greatest Lantern of them all.
You're correct in that it's about being "controllable." They want Manhunters-level compliance without the rigid focus on the stated mission.

Aw man, it really is her? I was trying to convince myself it wouldn't be so obvious.
ETA: Haven't watched latest episode yet. Might put it on during work this week. Or wait for the rest to come out so I can see if it gets any dumber than last week. Don't care about spoilers.

Latest episode still with the racially charged one-liners.
I wish the show sucked, but the acting is above-average and I enjoy the bluntness of Hal-Lantern and random oddities, eg, “draw me naked “ - wtf was that about?

She starts by talking about how heroic she is and how she deserves to be then says something like “why can’t I be the super hero”. Watch the interview, it’s not long and it’ll explain all the nonsense in the show, why it seems like it’s fighting itself especially regarding John.

I don't know why you'd want a show to suck, but so far for me it's a mixed bag being carried by Chandler. It's holding my interest so far as a Green Lantern Ignorant viewer, but if they could stop screaming BLACKETY-BLACK-BLACK in my face that would be great.

Yeah.
I will say this week's episode was much better. I decided to give it another chance to see if Ep 3 was a one-off. Well, more weird male nudity. But other than that it was fine.

I don't know much about lanterns obviously, but I thought the ring had to choose you? John can just take it by putting it on and saying the oath?

I'm enjoying both characters. It's certainly a really interesting dynamic and cool plot with the guardians. Just wish we didn't have last weeks episode. But it does seem like they are putting the white privilege in the background. Hal commented that his dad was fearless but had his struggles. So maybe his background isn't just white privilege.

Not sure what's funny about me giving it another chance? I can stomach a one-off episode with nonsense. Not going to watch an entire series based around it.
