The magic & wonder have been chemically removed from the franchise. George started the process with the CG enhanced rereleases then the midichlorian nonsense in the prequels. But Disney full on drove the stake through the heart of SW with the sequels. Then the unforgivable crime of not reuniting Han, Luke & Leia on screen.
They had their chance but instead chose to subvert expectations while propping up their own new & improved universe of characters.
Galaxies Edge, Starcruiser Hotel, the D+ shows… all abysmal failures.

Disney can't get out of its own way ideologically. They are a family company that wants to lecture to half the population (men).

Read the Rolling Stones review.
Certainly not a glowing review by Rolling Stone. If the people giving this the benefit of the doubt are not impressed it may be doomed. Which I am not excited about. Despite all the flashing neon signs pointing to wokeness, I was hopeful this would somehow be good.

Most of the pieces are uneven at best, if not simply underwhelming. Carrie-Anne Moss is used well in an opening action set piece (once again getting to work with bullet-time effects, 25 years after the first Matrix) but is otherwise wasted, and the later fight scenes aren’t as dynamic. There are some amusing bits of business regarding interpersonal dynamics among the Jedi — Yord is so disrespected that even Sol’s padawan, Jecki (Dafne Keen, from Logan and His Dark Materials), feels comfortable acting superior to him — but not a lot. And the idea of seeing a Wookiee Jedi in action is more exciting than the little that Kelnacca actually gets to do.
quote:
Johnson’s The Last Jedi goes out of its way to democratize the Force, rather than treating it as something worthy only of characters with noble bloodlines. It positions Rey as the child of nobodies, and its final scene features an orphaned boy casually using the Force to grab a broom and sweep out a stable on Canto Bight. In The Rise of Skywalker, Abrams retcons things so that Rey is the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine, and he has zero interest in Broom Boy.

In other words, this feels like a narrative dead end. That doesn’t automatically preclude a good series: The fact that no one learns anything here could be the whole tragic point of the story Headland and company are telling. It’s good to see another Star Wars project that, like Andor, interrogates some of the franchise’s fundamental assumptions. Entertainment-wise, though, the first half of The Acolyte is unfortunately a lot closer to The Book of Boba Fett.

I am ready for the usual suspects on here to tell us how amazing and totally not woke it is. . .
. . .you all know who I am talking about.

I'm looking forward to the all lesbian witch coven, and the twin sisters that were miraculously conceived via scissoring. My god this is gonna be great. I hope they get some scissor sabers to go along with those light whips.

There are so many cool stories in the EU about ancient Sith that a canon show could be based on, and were about to get an absolute crap fest, it appears. What a bummer.

It’s worse than we thought. The Neimoidians aren’t aggressively Asian anymore lol

3 minutes in and it is aggressively lame and gay.

I'm watching it and the acting is terrible. Very wooden...It's almost on the level of a Power Rangers show

Man, blue, black, woman, trans. IT DOESNT MATTER. if the showrunner puts out a big flaming pile of shite they will get shite on all the same. This is what I truly despise about people like KK. They arent getting shite on more because they are a woman, they are getting shite on because they produce dogshit.
I’d argue that Rogue One is the best Star Wars Movie, and possibly better than any of the series, put out since the original trilogy.
The primary heroes of the story were a female and persons of Mexican, Pakistani and Chinese descent. If you look at the movie poster it shows that group along with Forrest Whitaker (a black guy) and Ben Mendelsohn as the only white guy, who happens to be the primary antagonist. So seemingly - if you’re going for the “woke” look, it would meet the criteria.
But no one complains about it. Why? Because it’s a damn strong movie.

How the frick you gonna kill off Trinity in the first five minutes? Opening scene clear homage/ripoff of Crouching Tiger.

I decided last minute to give this the benefit of the doubt and give it a try. I’m about 30 min to episode I. So far, two thoughts:
1. I can only hope it gets better than what I’ve seen so far.
2. The racial and gender agenda of the director is quite clear. The only white dudes I’ve seen is the lunatic and the criminal on the prisoner ship. So much for “representation matters” I guess.

I guess the Jedi Order didn’t start admitting white dudes until much closer to the time of the Phantom Menace.

Odd choice to cast baby-face Tommen Baratheon and make him look like a 40 year old when actual 40 year olds exist

I’ve never seen a fat Jedi before.
But now I have.
But now I have.
