I didn't have that impression after TPM, either That is a weird take
It shouldn’t be an impression it’s spelled out to you by Qui-Gon in TPM:
quote:
Life-forms living together for mutual advantage. Without the midi-chlorians, life could not exist and we would have no knowledge of the Force. They continually speak to us, telling us the will of the Force.
They’re a microscopic organisms that lives in our cells and connects us to the force.
Force Sensitivity is a bacterial infection.
quote:
I agree with that, sort of. That was what I said was distasteful. But it didn't break anything, just a needless explanation.
it doesn’t have to break something to suck.
it makes the force less cool and as cool as rigid conformity to a canon is, there are other things to consider as well.
“it doesn’t break the universal can’t be the bar.
quote:
The force is female
we’re taking about TShirt now?
“Kathleen Turner’s Tshirt is part of the movies”
quote:
All personal preference, but RotS is easily one of the best SW movies. Easily. Some of the most iconic moments in SW happen in that film.
it’s easily forgettable and bad.

quote:
Because all the EU stuff made sure they didn’t step on Lucas’s toes.
EU made sure it was right with Lucas not the other way around.
Lucas did have approval on anything that went out from the EU.
quote:
For over 35 years, the Expanded Universe has enriched the Star Wars experience for fans seeking to continue the adventure beyond what is seen on the screen. When he created Star Wars, George Lucas built a universe that sparked the imagination, and inspired others to create. He opened up that universe to be a creative space for other people to tell their own tales. This became the Expanded Universe, or EU, of comics, novels, videogames, and more.
He also stated that his movies/story did not have to align with the EU but the EU did need to align basically with Canon.
quote:
While Lucasfilm always strived to keep the stories created for the EU consistent with our film and television content as well as internally consistent, Lucas always made it clear that he was not beholden to the EU. He set the films he created as the canon. This includes the six Star Wars episodes, and the many hours of content he developed and produced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These stories are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align.
I do not feel while completely under Lucas's control he ever discarded EU just allowed to support what he was making.
The issue really came when Disney/Kennedy to over.
quote:
Now, with an exciting future filled with new cinematic installments of Star Wars, all aspects of Star Wars storytelling moving forward will be connected. Under Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy's direction, the company for the first time ever has formed a story group to oversee and coordinate all Star Wars creative development.
the new story team is what has ruined SW for many. Kennedy was given the Golden Ticket with so much already out there her and Disney could have brought to the screen but decided to ignore for the most part and create their own story.
Fett may have one of the best stories in the EU that fully covered his life outside of the Movies. But Disney ignored it and why so many fans hated his show.

quote:is not the same as

quote:
a bacterial infection.
That you believe this takes it from weird take to kinda dumb
They are basically intelligent forms of mitochondria. If you are willing to call mitochondria a "bacterial infection", then tell me now. . .because conversation with someone so incompetent would serve nobody.
Here is Lucas, the creator of midichlorians, explaining what they are:
quote:
"Midi-chlorians are a loose depiction of mitochondria, which are necessary components for cells to divide. They probably had something--which will come out someday--to do with the beginnings of life and how one cell decided to become two cells with a little help from this other little creature who came in, without whom life couldn't exist. And it's really a way of saying we have hundreds of little creatures who live on us, and without them, we all would die. There wouldn't be any life. They are necessary for us; we are necessary for them. Using them in the metaphor, saying society is the same way, says we all must get along with each other."
Again, didn't change anything in lore or canon. Just gave an unnecessary and unwanted explanation for something that took the mystique away.
Nobody liked it, but it broke nothing.
quote:I agree.
it doesn’t have to break something to suck.
Again, nobody liked it. But if we are going to pretend like that was anywhere close to:
1) Holdo maneuver
2) Mary Sue Rey
3) What they did to Sabine
4) Gut stabs don't kill anymore
5) Jedi knowing that Sith existed when they shouldn't
6) Mundi. . .lol
7) Vespa Rangers
8) Lizzo and Black. . .just kill me
9) Obi Wan bailing on his only mission (watching Luke)
I mean. . .
And that isn't even going into the horrific writing and dialogue of Mando S3, Boba Fett, and The Acolyte.

i’m going to say this, midichlorians are dumber than a lot of those things. It’s an extremely lame explanation of the most important thing in the entire franchise.
It’s like learning your connection with god was because of a mitochondria. People just stop thinking about it.
I’ve said it before, I dont think any of the first 6 movies would survive the scrutiny every episode gets.
Remember the outrage about space fire on the wing of the spaceship Osha puts out?
R2D2 does the same thing in The PT. and the flames look exactly the same.

Yep, agree with you on this one. Just a stupid decision by Lucas. There was no need to try and explain the force.

But this is all just your hurt feelings and personal preference. No lore or canon breaking stuff.
quote:they get that scrutiny, because they lost the trust of the fanbase.
I dont think any of the first 6 movies would survive the scrutiny every episode gets.
And instead of trying to earn it back, they:
-pre-emptively blame male for the potential future failure of a series
-Declare they are into the idea that this series is super gay
-Makes reference after reference that the show is queer coded, tries to walk it back by blaming fans for misunderstanding her
-Blames review bombing for the poor reviews
-casts based on color and gender
-Blames fans for the shows lack of popularity
-Fans are the worst part of Star Wars
If Lucas did that back in the day, his movies would have been cooked, too.

it’s like telling people mitochondria are why we have a connection to G-d and that Moses was a guy with just a ton of mitochondria.
Lizzo had a minute of screen time in one episode of the Mandolorian and we’re supposed to pretend that’s worse than Jar Jar Binks getting more screen in a Phantom menace than Obi-Wan got in the entire original trilogy.

Right, the initial explanation was perfect. The force is basically the idea that all matter is connected, the Jedi have just learned how to physically manipulate that connectivity. Very simple and believable concept. The PT doesn’t conflict with that, it’s just an unnecessary simplification of how to identify people who are strong with the force that could’ve easily been ironed out had the IP not been inherited by a bunch of no talent hacks.

Jar Jar hate was manufactured and exacerbated by the media, not fans. They decided Jar Jar was racist, and article after article told us that we all hated Jar Jar.
Was he a great character? No. Was he a bad character? Also no. He was a cartoony comic relief, no different than the interplay between R2 and C3PO in the OT.
The amount of screentime Lizzo had is irrelevant, The fact that they felt they needed a stunt like that was what was so cringe.
It is also noted that I said Lizzo AND Black, but you only want to be defensive about the non-white male.
Your defense of all things Disney Wars is starting to come into clearer focus.

than Obi-Wan got in the entire original trilogy.
Jar Jar got less than 3PO in the OT, which is essentially his analogue (out of place personality, comic relief, some general usefulness)
OT Kenobi's analogue would be Qui-Gonn. Ben had more screentime than Jinn, if you count ghosts..

this is where we are in star wars discourse.
Jar Jar apologists. He was a bad character. Me thinking he was dumb AF in 1999 wasn’t because of the media. I was 9. I didnt read or watch the news.
And I said Lizzo because Jack Black is at least an actor. He does this for a living. Lizzo was a weirder cameo
and you wanna talk about bad dialogue?
MISSA JAR JAR BINKS

Jar Jar, while annoying as frick, is a pivotal character

it’s an unforced error
it strongly implies force powers could be injected or transfused. If these things are known about almost everything should be focused
on increasing their count in your body.

There’s no implication that it’s possible to fabricate and transfer medicloriates anywhere in the PT.

The thing about implications is that they aren’t explicitly stated.
if they are living creature in our bodies and the number of them in our bodies is directly related to how well we control the force, which seems important, why wouldn’t everyone be trying to cultivate these creatures and increase their midichlorian levels.
we know
1. They are separate entities to us. Not part of our bodies like an organ just in our bodies.
2. They are in all of us to some degree so every living thing is a suitable host for them.

quote:he was a decent character.
He was a bad character.
Most everyone sees that now. But journos helped create this idea that he wasn't.
Several automatons still parrot this talking point, but all actual SW fans will tell you he wasn't a bad character, just not a great one.
Decent to mid.
But feel free to parrot more corporate media talking points as your own thoughts.
And yet complain when the Kaiju dude does that with Nerdrotic.

They’re not creatures or a bacteria, they’re the physical signature of the force itself. You’re making a bunch of assumptions that have no support.
Posted on 7/8/24 at 2:12 pm to Roaad
buddy, I was 9 when that movie came out and I thought he was dumb,
You think I was reading articles about him being racist or watching the news?”
What did you like about him?
whats the decent parts?

sometimes I argue with yall and I wonder if you’ve watched these movies.
