Coates is a huge comic book nerd, so I'd be surprised if he injects much of his world view into the story, but it's certainly possible that he will.

I believe that someone like Coates, it would be literally impossible for him not to.

ESPECIALLY with something like Superman, which to some people is white privilege personified.

This is a personal punishment directed towards me. I've been bitching for years that they couldn't possibly make a worse Superman movie than Man of Steel or Batman V Superman.

This guy can not write a Superman movie. I'm usually against cancelations but taunting selfless dead heroes that run into burning buildings to save lives, no you're not writing a Superman movie. Then again we're living in 1984, but I wouldn't be surprised if this causes enough controversy to fire him.

It doesn't say that in the linked article in the OP. Is there another article you're referring to?

He wrote a Black Panther series about police brutality in Harlem. Anyone suggesting that he won't inject his politics into this is lying.

It's bad enough that DC completely wasted Henry Cavill's prime years but they're also going to allow this leftist SJW trash to touch the most iconic character in all of comic book history?

We live in hell right now and a lot of people around me may have done a lot to deserve this but it sure as shite is not me, one of the biggest Superman fanboys there is out there.

It’s in the THR article linked:
quote:

According to sources, the project is being set up as a Black Superman story. This is something that the studio has been trying to wrap its head around for months, if not a year or two.

Last year, acclaimed nonfiction writer and lifelong comic-book geek Ta-Nehisi Coates stumbled into an incredible opportunity: Publisher Marvel Comics asked him to write a superhero series. The plan was for him to pen a number of issues of Black Panther, ...
There was only one problem: He had absolutely no idea how to write a comic book. Didn’t know what word-processing program to use, didn’t know how to describe what the artist should draw, none of it.

This pisses me off more than anything else. If you can't transition from writing a screenplay to writing a comic book (two visual mediums), you're either lying or a terrible writer.

It's like the scorpion and the frog. "Oh no, he wouldn't dare insert his political views into a beloved comic. That would destroy them both."

Coates is a huge comic book nerd, he's incredible smart and he really is a great writer. But OF COURSE he will inject his world view into the story. That's why they've asked him to do this.

I'll go out on a limb and say that his version of Superman won't be aligned with some of the SJW stuff we saw with Star Wars or other movies. Coates is deeper and will use more imaginative analogies to raise any greater points. I might even suggest that everyone, from all walks of political thought, will really like the story.

I think where there will be disgruntled reactions will be from the critical acclaim this version of Superman will get. Sure, it will be a great movie and if everyone is honest with themselves, they'll probably say they like it. But it will probably garner more publicity, awards, etc... than a lot of people think it deserved, and that will be the foundation of the controversy we get to discuss in a couple of years.
