I agree 100%, in all the movies. This is the first time they made his natural parents look like complete tools and not heroes themselves.

See, I don’t think anyone built him. I think Superman built himself. And he definitely did by the end of the movie. His Krypton parents didn’t expect him to be any kind of Messiah or savior. And again, his Kansas parents again are great people, But it’s exactly what his dad said in that talk with him. He can’t tell him what to do. He’s been an example yes, but not enforcing anything on him. He didn’t make Clark. I think that is what gunn was going for. That’s why I like the simplicity of his Kansas parents and the weirdness or alternate take of his krypton parents.

Those are good points. We really dont know enough about his Smallville upbringing.

We have 10 seasons of it.

They already got this money when they sold the merch rights, merchandisers keep these monies.
WB doesn’t make toys and t-shirts. Hasbro and Hanes do though, so they are hoping for a lot of eyes.

He’s talking about with this take And I’m specifically talking about this take as well. He’s right though, we don’t have a lot to go on except what was said in this movie.

And I’m not really saying that they didn’t help build him in this. They did. But I think the message that Gunn really wanted to get across about this. Superman is that he very much built himself. He doesn’t come from extraordinary people. He comes from weirdos and simple people. It humanizes him and makes him more relatable.

Gunn is the prime example of an unreliable narrator in real life. Who knows what his motivations for saying it’s political were. Besides the foreign leader bad guy, who’s obviously Vladimir Putin, even down to the horse photo, there’s nothing overtly political pertaining to the real world. There are political issues in universe but aside from very minuscule things there’s nothing there.

I liked the movie. It was better than I expected.

The Man of Steel Superman would’ve kicked this Superman’s arse, but I think that helps make a better movie. Superman can be too OP. This one was not. He was always getting tossed around. This is why, in retrospect, Cavill couldn’t stay. Needed a fresh baby faced actor to make the new vulnerability work.

He is fighting himself though, so it’s not that he’s really weak or underpowered. But not as bad arse as Cavill for sure

That’s one error they made. Lex calling out the moves in real time couldn’t have worked. Too slow and Superman would be able to hear it. It should’ve been a preprogrammed thing to the suit or Lex vocally giving Ultraman combo commands instead of singular actions.

I agree with you on that one. What’s funny is that they showed that in the first scene of the movie. When Ultraman was in that metal suit. But we forgot about it. Lol. Yeah I thought that was kind of ridiculous. Didn’t take anything from the movie though for me.

I don't believe it was a strength issue, though. Lex studied Superman's fight moves and dictated counters on the fly. The moment Lex was unable to do that, Superman easily destroyed Ultraman (and he did it in style). The group of flying raptor henchmen didn't stand a chance.

As for the monster in the city, Superman was more concerned with where to drop the thing without causing damage.

Agree, it’s not a big deal just kind of a “huh?” moment. I think it was more exposition and character building for Lex than anything else.

Ok I can see that, “the one bad country vs another” line from Lois. But that horse photo on the false wall in his office covering his portal was kind of obvious imo.

Likely melded both conflicts together.

Good point and maybe that’s what Gunn meant, kind of a broad political nod.

I seriously doubt that, at least as far as Man of Steel Superman is concerned. Snyder’s Superman in Justice League seemed like he was on an entirely different level than this Supe AND Man of Steel Superman.

But also, this Supe didn’t spend a ton of time actually fighting. I’ll have to go back and watch but almost every single time we see him in the suit, he’s saving at least someone (or a dog or squirrel, or an alien baby.) Once Luthor was out of Ultraman’s ear, this Supe kicked his arse, which was just Superman but stronger, faster, better in every way + had Lex there to counter Superman’s every move

We know what Superman is capable of by now. It was nice to see him actually have some stakes in a physical confrontation that isn’t Zod and to see that he had way more concern to save as much life as possible vs just showing off how ridiculously strong he is
