Just got out and loved it. I was a bit worried my expectations were to high recently and that I would come away disappointed but I didn’t think that at all.

The only two things I would criticize are the start of the movie, it felt too fast. I feel like they could have started with a quick intro, then him getting beat, then the actual start of the movie.

Then the parent twist. I’m good with it in the context of the movie, but they should have had a scene explaining it was fake.

Other than that, loved it

I believe they are holding this to create some dramatic stakes for sequels

That was my thought as well. I’m not a huge comic guy, I wonder if they took that from a particular storyline

I loved it. It is action packed. More action than MoS. Which surprised me. Felt almost non stop. This is the closest thing to a DC animated live action movie that there has ever been. Yes the cgi is not great. But didn’t care in the context of the movie because the tone is set early on that it’s cartoon fun. It is hilarious, cute, soulful, and visually entertaining. I fricking loved it. Obviously not a perfect movie, but most complaints I would have are just because of a preconceived expectation of what I think Superman is. And his villains. But you have to throw that out the window because this movie is great in its own context. And you will have a blast if you let yourself.

Some notes and things that stood out:

Lex is a child. Great performance by Hault, but he’s written as a child and I kind of wish he was more in control of his emotions. But that’s just my view of Lex. Honestly, this Lex was kinda like the BvS Lex in his childishness. But obviously he looks the part much much better. But it’s fine. No big deal. It worked in the context of the movie because he’s basically Geoffrey from GoT. That’s his plot. But Gene Hackman remains the GOAT

I love that Superman is vulnerable. Not a god. Just really strong and has some powers. But he’s far far from the strongest thing in the universe. Which you need to give him real conflict.

Green lantern eating fruity pebbles. I love the little details like that that define a character in one shot. It shows a passion for the product.

As far as the Krypton parents message. It seems real to me. The villains confirmed its legitimacy with each other. So if they do decide to make it fake in another movie, I think it would be course correction. I know y’all might think I’m crazy, but I actually like it. I like that Superman has this conflict to deal with. Hey, we’ve all had to deal with that shite from our parents. Wanting us to be something or certain things. Superman has Mormon parents. But now, he’s a rebel. He’s a punk rock Superman. I think it’s a cool little thing that’s different.

There’s a TON more I can say and I can’t wait to see it again.

8/10

Krypton parents message

I must have missed where the villains confirmed it amongst themselves. I still absolutely hate it and the real version will always be the MOS backstory

Thanks man. Yeah, I’ll be honest. I went into this thinking I wasn’t gonna like it. I was pretty surprised. Entertained me to the core.

The dictator guy said to Lex nice job with a fake message or something like that. Lex confirmed to the dictator that it was real. It wouldn’t make much sense at that point for him to say to the dictator it was real unless it was. The conversation they had would make absolutely no sense. He even said to the dictator, “who knew that Supermans own parents would give me the fuel i needed” or something like that. It could still be fake. It’s just my opinion that it was gunns intention for it to be real. If they do change it, in my opinion, it would’ve been course correction. Again, it doesn’t matter and I think it’s really stupid for people to be arguing about it. Lol. Because the movie is amazing.

Overall, it doesn’t seem to matter in the context of this movie because the backstory is mostly an afterthought anyway.

It was set up in MOS with emotion and stakes since we saw Krypton destroyed and him struggling with his identity early on in life. To me, it’s as important as Wayne in the alley. Everyone already knows what happened so we can just skip to him being Superman now

In my view, it just kind of establishes what gunn wanted to do with Superman. He’s not this guy who comes from perfect parents. His parents in Kansas are great people. But they’re just regular people. normal people. They’re not super dad like Kevin Costner. And his parents from krypton are weirdos. Lol. He’s a product of a lot of people in the world. And like he says at the end, he puts 1 foot in front of the other and keeps going. I really like what gunn did with it. It worked well in his world.

The inherent problem in Hollywood is that they see:

quote:

Audience is predominately male (65%) and over 25 (72%) so far
And they think. . .ok, we got that demo on lock. . .now let's change everything to bring in women and young adults!

Think of all the money!!!!

then they change shite and the men stop coming. . .then it becomes "Whelp, , .men are bigots!"

I think the message is real. Hasn’t this been done before in Superman?

I also think that’s the point. Even though he was destined to be Homelander, his Earth parents influence and choices made him freaking Superman.

Dude was rescuing squirrels while Hawk Girl was dropping people to their death.lol

This superman movie seems like a parody or satire and I am still watching it. This movie sucks.

Warner Bros. should sell DC to Disney so that great DC movies can be made.

I enjoyed the movie, like I do most Gunn projects. Fun popcorn movie. More entertaining than Snyder's MOS. 8 of 10.

If there is one thing holding me back is that this Superman is as likable as Star Lord. Really good guy, flawed, but well-intentioned. More of a bro. As much as I liked & rooted for Star Lord, he never made me want to be a better person. Christopher Reeve's Superman did. The '78 Superman character exuded a wholesome ideal of a man I personally wished I could be.
