Batman's take on Krypto in the latest Super Cafe is hilarious.

Krypto is just a terrible concept. Makes no sense.

No, Superman is not supposed to be dark at all. Like even remotely.

This is YOUR idea of Superman and I can respect that. Right up until the point you decide that your version is the ONLY acceptable version. Read Action Comics#1. Here's a link to the first issue pdf so you can know what you're talking about. LINK Superman was righteous retribution for bullies, criminals, corporate slum lords, and the disadvantaged. And he doled out that retribution with an unforgiving smirk. He was written this way by young, nerdish men for whom this all powerful agent of protection was born out of wish fulfillment. He was their answer to the inequity they themselves experienced, both economic and physical. The Superman you speak of truly arrived in the 1950's and by the time of the Superfriends in the 70's had become the norm- but he didn't start that way and he didn't stay that way. He has been reinvented time after time and will continue to be long after we are gone.

It’s not my interpretation it’s the interpretation.

There’s nothing “dark” about #1 in the conventional sense he is referring.

Yeah, they made Hackman and Beatty a little comic relief. The first Reeve movie did a good job of keeping it contained. Things got out of control in the 3rd and 4th movies which is why they were generally panned.

On the flip side, Superman Returns was too sterile.

I’m not surprised but disappointed he’s trying to make DC movies in the same aesthetic as the marvel children’s movies

Wait? Its based on comic books.

This call for realistic, dark comic book films is so odd to me. Its a COMIC book movie. Comic as in fantastically not realistic. Nor dark

Its light-hearted, escapist, male versions of Disney fairy tales

I am going to reserve judgment until I see the movie. I am pretty sure I was very skeptical of Guardians of the Galaxy when I saw the previews. A talking racoon?

My favorite Superman movies are

Superman
Superman II
Man of Steel (my favorite, yeah it has issues.. every movie does)

Only saw the other trailer for this Superman movie. Not sure if I'll like this one anywhere close as much as the ones I listed above, but I do want to see it. I feel it'll be enjoyable.

I love Superman I and II, but Luthor was comedically light, Otis, Miss Tessmacher, Lois, Jimmy, Perry, Non... The films were filled with jokes and almost every character had a goofy side to them. (Less serious than they were in the comics at that time.)

My point being that when people hold up the Reeves Superman as the standard bearer, but crap on Gunn for making Superman too light, they're being pretty imperceptive or intentionally obtuse.

This board decided a long time ago they liked this movie for some reason.

I've been consistently downvoted for pointing out how weird the movie has looked every step of the way. The costumes, the color palette, the tone, it's all extremely odd.

Its basically the exact color palette etc I have been calling for for a Superman movie for like a decade, so I might be a little too close to the argument

There are some strange elements and a lot of characters in this movie but I’m going to hold off on any predictions. At least it seems like they’re trying for the right tone and it looks like it will be a message of hope. My worry is that Gunn is a one trick pony, his movies are all the exact same but Siegel and Shuster have done a ton of Super Man stuff so the collaboration might work well.

It's not a theater movie for me likely, but I'll watch it on streaming.

My hopes are not high at all. However, I admit often to being like Captain Darrow, USMC.

Marvel was always darker compared to DC, way more complex characters.
