Watching the Moana 2 trailer made me think of this one.

In Disney sequels the characters are usually wearing slightly different clothing and/or go through outfit changes so they can sell new toys and clothes to make $$$

My favorite is Cars, they make a huge deal of Lightning getting new paint, tires, whatever, a bunch of times. Each time you know those corporate fat cats were just staring at $$$

I remember grown adults that were NASCAR fans that would collect each of the cars thinking they would be worth something in a few years.

I know this is just a post on a message board and all but the thought of us sitting around naming our favorite marketing ploys and merch lines in movies is dystopian as hell

I can remember when producers would go far out of their way to NOT show name brands, as to keep from being sued by the brand owners. In my mind, that changed forever with Reese's Pieces being a plot point in E.T.

Prior to E.T. my favorite was Ilya and Alexander Salkind drenching the Superman VS Phantom Zone Villains street fight with brands (Marlboro truck, Evita on Broadway bus, Coca~Cola light-sign, Kentucky Fried Chicken). When it came time to Supergirl, they made a major deal with Popeye's to feature an entire battle in and around a Popeye's Fried Chicken.

Not long after I was of age, I actually went out and bought a bottle of Glenmorangie just because of the bar scene in Highlander. Brilliant. I still wonder if they actually paid for the promo.

Idk if it was marketing and it wasn't that subtle but The Big Lebowski is responsible for me buying about 20 bottles of kahlua over the years

Jansport backpacks in BTTF, and not just the backpack itself, but the way it is worn over only one shoulder. By the time I got out of HS, almost every male student I knew had one, and everyone wore it over one shoulder, and likely still do to this day.

I wouldn't call it subtle, but the fact that Tom Hank's character in Castaway worked for FedEx, and he delivered a package in the end that he was holding onto for over 3 years was quite a boon for FedEx.

Before product placement was common, Smirnoff paid for Bond to drink a Vodka Martini in Dr No

It was the key to Smirnoff's success and displacing Gin in Martinis
