Lance Armstrong in Dodgeball. Had he not run into Peter Lefleur and offered inspiring words, the Globo Gym Purple Cobras most likely go on to win the championship. Steve never returns to piracy, Justin and Amber never marry, Owen may not have ended up with Fran even (although she was quite into him regardless). Peter loses his bet and never gets the capital to not only buy back Average Joe’s, but also the entire Globo Gym franchise. More importantly he misses out on threesomes with Kate and Joyce. White obviously would not have devolved back into his morbidly obese self. And he also would not have reason to dislike Chuck Norris.

His appearance in Apocalypse Now may have even been shorter. Not sure....

It's not really what your thread is about, but Beetlejuice is barely in the movie at all. He only has 17 minutes of screen time and doesn't even show up for the first half hour.

Robert Duvall is a great for Apocalypse Now. Short screen time, barely influenced the plot but damn memorable.

This and Beatrice Straight (Louise Schumacher) in Network. She was only on screen for ~5mins and won an Academy award for it.

What about Ned Beatty in Network?

Two scenes, one day of filming, and a performance that changes the course of the film and gets an Oscar nomination.

A lot of good choices already mentioned, so I'll add Brian Cox in Manhunter

I've always liked Robert De Niro as heating engineer Harry Tuttle in Brazil.

Forest Whittaker as Amos in The Color of Money.

Maybe one of the greatest scenes of all time.

Could be one of the worst castings in film history. There's nothing remotely frightening about Anthony Hopkins.

Johnny Tyler (BBT) in Tombstone. Everyone in existence has that scene memorized.
