I agree. Apparently it is so safe now, you can build an entire army base in there. And you can have soldiers just sitting in watch towers doing patrols. Where are the demogorgans, demohounds, or the bats? It seems like those hive mind tentacles were everywhere in previous seasons. Wouldn't they have disturbed some when building the base thereby alerting Vecna of their presence?

I have a LOT of thoughts on these first four episodes, but didn't want to come into the thread this late and post my bullshite. So I'll spare y'all my stream of consciousness type posts on this season.
So I'll just ask: Is the general consensus that these four episodes completely fricking sucked? Or do people like them more than I did? Because I thought they were bad bad, and borderline (not quite, but almost) "ruining the show" bad.

It seems like the general consensus of the board is that it is certainly took a drop in quality. It's gotten a good bit of hate but most seem to still enjoy it. If I had to sum it up if you wanted to skip the reading it's probably been mainly "Meh, it's worth watching."

That's a great summary of that whole angle.
And honestly, the gay shite is whatever. It's annoying, but holy shite just get done with it already. The wishful lust eyes and secret conversations about it are fricking tiresome. But that isn't even mostly why I think it sucked. The whole thing just felt like VERY low budget and low effort and almost everyone was mailing it in.
I may add my thoughts to the thread tomorrow since I'm about to leave. But really most of it is bitching about shite that I'm quite sure has been covered.
And I'm in for the rest, mainly because I've invested so much time into it and want to see it completed. There were also a couple of things i did like about it. But man, most of it was just bad bad.

the problem with this staggered finale is you're almost rush watching these 4 episodes as the appetizer, waiting for the meat of it.
Maybe once available as a whole this part of the season won't seem as meh, mostly dependent on them sticking the landing

I am hopeful that they stick it, and I am in it until the end. But some of the gripes I have about this first volume aren't even about plot stuff. Like some of the acting is just bad, and the set pieces look cheap and fake. At one point I made the comment that the upside down where they were looked like someone bought a fake tree/log from Hobby Lobby and put some spraypaint on it. it just looked cheap and overly fake (whereas it hasn't previously).
Even the blood and bruises on Dustin's face look ridiculous and not real at all. it all just looks so half-assed to me.
I should've counted the number of times Erica said "dipshit." That annoyed me more than most things for some reason (because I hate her
). I completely don't understand exactly where Holly is or how Max is there. Even her explanation didn't make much sense to me. I assume they are behind the gross wall in the UD?
It bothers me that nobody ever asks Murray for any actual weapons, and Nancy is the only person capable of shooting a gun (and a shotgun at that).
They've almost destroyed Robin's character this season. She only seems to be there for some absolutely awful and totally forced comic relief, and to "be there" for Will so he can come out. "I like dick." Very subtle, Stranger Things.
Nothing makes sense. demigorgans can morph basically wherever they want, yet sometimes they are banging on doors and walking away, when they just morphed/portalled into the next room 20 seconds ago.
And the most ridiculous thing had to have been the 360 degree shootout at the base in the UD. Everyone was shooting at a demigorgan leaping all over the place and completely firing hundreds of shots at everyone else in the background. I mean at one point they had a fricking .50cal type gun mounted on a fricking Humvee just shooting it in every single direction possible. Even in a show about monsters and upside down worlds, that was so unbelievable that it took me completely out of the episode.
I don't know. It just seems like in just about every aspect, everyone mailed it in this season and the quality took a huge dive. Maybe it's just me though. I still haven't read the rest of the thread yet...

I started the first episode, couldn’t even finish it. It feels like everyone is just going through the motions and, somehow, the acting has become terrible.

I thought they were enjoyable. They obviously suffer from so much time between seasons but I didn’t dislike them.

I have sat through Ozark, GoT, Heroes, Bloodlines, Witcher (no offense to Hemsworth,) SoA, Man in the High Castle, etc. final seasons.
I mean this in the most serious sense, keep ST S5 out of your mouth when talking about worst Final Seasons ever.
